Yesterday I managed to rip the sole off my trusty North wave boots 🙄 I've got Shimano Dryshields but I'd like a cheap( ISH) back up pair . Sports Pursuit had the North wave Goretex boots for £100 Xmas and I prevaricated too long 🙄

Planet X are cheap ? So are Gaerne ?

I'd rather stick with North wave but there aren't any bargains about

I can't speak to the quality of their winter boots but the one pair of Gaerne XC shoes I have is pretty good and I get along well with the fit (I have wider feet).

Planet X, well they're Planet X, could be awesome, might be shite.

Deporvillage had some good prices on Northwave, depending on size

Lordgun have some Northwave winter boots for around the £100 mark. I got mine from there as they had the lowest prices when I got mine in Sept.

I looked at those PX boots and decided against them as there's no mention of any insulation or waterproof membrane. The sole looks pretty rubbish for walking too and I was wary of the zip getting clogged with crud.

I found the planetx ones came up very narrow when I tried a pair 2-3 years ago so have ended up with the Shimano MW7s though I suspect the cheaper MW5s would have done the job just as well.  not massively insulated but nice and wide so no issue sizing up for thick socks or even the merino lined sealskinz socks.

Used off ebay ?   Having paid a premium for some new MW7's, I managed to source a pair of hardly used RW5's and then another pair of MW7's.  Dropped in the washiing machine and they are like new.

For any regular winter riding, a shoe/glove dryer is pretty much essential! If nothing else it stops them smelling funky.

Good stuff. Always worth looking.  As for drying them, I put them on the dehumidifier, or in the direct line of the air coming out the top.
