I've just managed to get my hands on a shed to store my bikes in. I'm concerned that storing the bikes in very cold temperatures might cause damage to components, mainly shock absorbers and forks.
Anyone know anything about this?
Don't ride it in the wet either. HTH.
Mine are stored in a garage all year round. I've never experienced or heard of bikes being damaged in this way. Conversely, I've known forks to be damaged by being stored somewhere too warm!
Cold no, damp definitely.
Yeah I expect they're designed to cope with it. The shed is dry so hopefully they'll be ok.
What about tyres guys?
In the past when we have left bikes outside all winter the tyres have degraded and usually split very quickly in Spring. Is it best to remove the tyres? Deflate them? Keep pressure in them / off of them?
Our bikes will be putting their wheels up from next week as we're off to work in the Alps over the winter...
