I have an old Wingnut 2.5 that is very well used (over 10 years old), and looking to replace.

Anyone have the 1.8?
Is it the same just smaller?

I have a small hip pack for local riding (2-3 hours) which squeezes in all the essentials, but looking for something to use on bigger days out where a jacket/pork pies are required.

The old 2.5 was Tardis like, but wondering if the 1.8 is just a roomy?

I think mine is the old 1.5, Plenty of room for an all day ride.

Vegetarian so haven't tried to see how many pork pies would fit.

After the great hip/fanny/bum bag debate, I too am thinking about a wingnut. However I seem to remember some comments about reduced quality on the newer packs. Have I imagined this or were there genuine concerns, particularly with zips?

Zips were an issue on some early ones I believe but are still good on mine. The bladder zip jammed after sitting unused for years but a night in the freezer and a kettle of boiling water sorted it out after a couple of days applying penetrating oil. I don't often use mine, most rides is a small waist pack and bottles on the bike but they are much nicer than riding with a conventional pack.

Little bit smaller but still more than good enough for day rides. Still very very comfortable too.
