That's one of my semi-regular routes, when the ranges are open obviously. It is used by mx'ers and 4x4's but they are very courteous.

Can I ask where you are coming from and where are you cycling to, just in case there's other routes.

This may help in any case:

Sorry, can I just edit: do you mean the route going from north to south or the perimeter track?

Do post up if you need more info!

That comes under Larkhill and it looks fine for the weekend. A lot of the time there is public access at weekends but always best to check beforehand.

It may not be terribly challenging for you, I normally ride in the opposite direction on a single speed! But if you haven't been on the Plain before, it's quite an interesting place to see.

One idea would be to head towards Tilshead, just SW of there is a mock Bosnian village that's used for training. Most bizarre sight in the middle of nowhere!

The Ridgeway is lovely! Huge amount of tracks going off from there too.

I don't have a problem as am sure you're a responsible rider on both types of bikes. 🙂

Thanks very much for the info.I am much more responsible on my trail motorbike than i am on a mountain bike :-).Had great day today all the Byways around Aldbourne,Ramsbury,Avebury etc were dry which makes a change not been a great year in that area. Its like riding a mountain bike but you get to see more of the countryside in one go.Up one track 3 deer crossed the path.Watched Red Kites soaring. The tracks in alot of places are quite easy so you get to look at the countryside.
I know the Swindon/Devizes area well just want to try some new ones.
Will look at the Tilshead one thanks. Will try them sunday.

Hi GC you are right some of the tracks are not to challenging then again some are so over grown you cant see whats underneath.Did Byways around Easton Royal/Collingbourne Kingston. Then into Collingbourne wood nice track from the pub into the woods even though there was a tree down across it.Looks like some people have made a mini motorbike track when you look in from the Byway on the fire road.Woods look nice XC raced in there mid 90s.looked very dry in there.Did do few above Tidworth by cemetery but came back over to collingbourne Ducis.Alot of map reading today Hay Ho least i know which are good and the ones not to bother with. Not so sure its that easy to follow the Byways by Sidbury hill they are not well marked, tracks everywhere.Think i will try the Tidworth ones next and move west.cheers again.
