XT cranks were 2x but have single NW ring.
Anyone know if the chainline will be crap or is it bike dependant and just a case of trying it? It's for a Tripster..

Why not?
Try it where a middle ring should be.
All within limits that an 1x11 is expecting more than ideal from a chain.

I've successfully run a 2x XT crank on my rim-braked CX bike - only issue might be whether a road front mech can swing wide enough to get a clean shift onto the big ring. From memory, I used a road triple front mech as a regular 2x wasn't enough
