Evening all.
I'm building up a cyclocross bike with odds and sods from the loft and was hoping you lot could cast your collective technical knowledge over my gear changing bits, and advise me on whether it will all work together.

Rear Shifting:
Shimano Tiagra 9Speed Right hand shifter
XT long cage Rear Derailleur
XT 9speed cassette 11-32t
HG73 9speed chain

Front Shifting:
Shimano 105 10speed left hand shifter
FSA CX Crankset 46-36t
XT 9Speed Front Derailleur.

many thanks

Can't say for sure, but I think it'll be ok.

I've got a mix of Tiagra + LX (long cage, 9 speed) on my commuter (Spesh Tricross), so the rear should definitely be fine. And I doubt there's enough difference between 9 & 10 speed for it to matter at the front.

Happy bodging! 🙂

Isn't it more to do with shifters and cassette though? The road shifter for the rear will need its pull to match the cassette gaps. The mech just goes where its told as it has no indexing anyway. So, are road and mtb cassettes the same width and with the same size gaps between sprockets? I don't know - just asking.

I've used a 9spd Ultegra cassette on an MTB hub without any problem

Rear will definitely work. Index spacing is the same between road and MTB for Shimano, quite a few recumbents use MTB rear mechs with Dura Ace bar-end shifters for example.

Front, well, give it a go - I think the spacing might be off using an XT mech, but not absolutely certain.

front mechs are different pull for road stuff. Higher mechanical advantage, so shorter cable pull.
It'll work, but will have a baggy cable at the low setting. It might also rub at the extremes, but that's nothing to worry about.

EDIT.. Sorry, read that the wrong way round.. road shifter and mtb mech.. harder to bodge! Would deffo be worth getting a cheapo road front mech

Many thanks for the advice. Will look around for a cheap front mech methinks.
