Or has it already?

Caused by chainsuck on my much abused on one fatty, Like I say its had a hard old patch to hoe with little care.
Needs a new drivetrain, rear axle, and freehub which is a fair bit of hassle and expense if the frame is going to give out anyway, and this years ice cream trucks arrive in april 🙂

I reckon it will definitely crack . . . Eventually.
But that could be next year or in the 2030s.

Nothing I can see there that currently looks like a crack. What happens next depends how thick that tube is I guess.

File the groove/edges smooth to minimise the risk of crack propagation. If you’re still worried, you could give it a carbon fibre bandage to beef it up a little - distribute the stresses. Try Easy Composites for a repair kit: https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/fishing-pole-repair-kit

If it was mine, I'd ride it but check it before each ride.

It's a chainstay? So surely even if it does crack, the bike will just have a bit more compliance on one side than the other.

There is still another chainstay and two seat stays holding it all together.

My full suss comes like that from the manufacturer by design!

I believe bonding a spoon to that is the recommended fix.

Check out the prices of Surly frames if you haven't already. Those available in stock appear to be about 200 quid more than they were. 🙄

Had the same on my Fatty. I just got some aerospace glue, a square of Ali from a can... bit of filler and rattle can paint after.

Been OK for 5 years now.

Did invest in a better front ring as well.

Thanks for your input but I can't understand what kind of mad alternate reality I've ended up in.
I've got most folk on a bike forum telling me its repairable, and the Mrs seems to be trying to push me into dropping the best part of 2.5 grand on an ice cream truck!
I can only surmise that she thinks its a real ice cream truck, with real ice cream.

Get it ordered before realisation dawns I should, and get an ice cream for your Mrs while you're at it.

Oddly enough my wife is the same. Get it bought before she goes back to normal.
