Know it has a Shimano jockey wheel bolted into it?

Off out tomorrow and my Sram X7's lower jockey wheel is goosed. Bearings must have gone in it as it will only turn when the screw that holds it in is loose!

i have a Shimano XT sitting on the shelf, a few years old that 've not got round to selling and nicked its jockey wheel and popped it into the X7.

Will it be fine?

count the teeth and are the wheels roughly the same size?
If yes and yes reckon it should work

I don't suppose it matters, it will just rotate at the speed the chain makes it rotate won't it?

no idea but some rear mechs specify 10 11 or 12 teeth I have never tried to mismatch /change but I assume they will all work. Try a mile out round house and see what happens. I think it will be fine but I have not tried

Sod it I'll take the rear mech off the other bike and carry it round as a spare tomorrow.

Size does matter, not from a "speed they rotate" point, but from how/where they position the chain. A smaller jockey will sit further from the cassette and give less precise shifting, and certainly on some of the newer Shimano mechs, will cause the chain to drag on the plate that runs between the cage plates.Neither are major issues, not much fuss to try them at home first though.
