My 2008 Heckler is my only bike and as another ex-pat, it gets used for a bit everything including general trail rides, techie singletrack and lift-assisted days in the bike park.

Currently has 140mm Pike U-Turns, which have been great. But I can't get this nagging idea out of my head that a 160mm fork would be a lot more fun and probably more appropriate for the steep & jumpy stuff. Is this justifiable? Because with the price of a 36/Lyrik these days, I find myself needing some help with justifing the serious $$$ when my current fork still gets me to the bottom of the hill.

Has anyone regretted going from a 140mm > 160mm on a Heckler?

I've had Talas 36 and Vanilla R 36 on mine and it loves it. Defo the Van over the talas - much much plusher and much much cheaper:)

Climbing is still good if you get over the handle bars but the extra confidance from the bigger fork, 20mm axle and extra plush travel is perfect on my Heckler. Changing between light and heavy tyres I do trail centre rides and plenty of downhill.

The 36's make for a cracking bike on a Heckler - anything else looks weedy!

Well thats good enough me, 160mm forks it is. 8) Thanks all.

Now the next tricky question is what forks to get - cheaper 55s, adjustable travel or coil plushness? Too many options!

these would be nice on a Heckler (thinking of selling my 32's for these on mine).

Better compromise for all round use than a 160mm 36 or Lyrik?

If I had a Heckler (I'd heckler in the morning, no, shut up) I'd look at the new Revelation u-turns, 150mm Teams. Bloody brilliant they are, almost as light as my old 130mm Revelations but stiffer, maxled, better damped and longer. Got a set on my Hemlock and OK, there will be times that a Lyrik would be a better option but most of the time they're spot on. Really impressed.
