You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The uppers on my rs reckon forks have dried out due to not being used. I tried to spray them with gt85 and cycle them through to oil them up which didn't work. My next hope is to buy some 5wt oil from swinnrerton cycles, apply some and then ride tomorrow. Is this a daft idea? Is it full upper and lowers service time to sort it?
Cheers
Personally I would just service them anyway,if you haven't ridden them a while then you probably won't mind waiting a few more days while they are getting serviced, then you know what state they are in e.g. Serviced, buggered and for the bin, just a clean up.
Use fork oil, not gt85, but a service wouldn't be a bad idea. Easy to do yourself.
Bit out of touch here.
Is that not bad, using GT85 on forks ? thought it was up there with using WD40..... i could be wrong.
Always used to smear 10wt on when i was racing to keep outer seals and legs slippery.
Then along came juice lubes fork juice.
If in doubt service proper like 🙂
Stored by hanging up from the front wheel?
I managed to lose all the oil out of my 66s over time without any visible leak. Only found out after a long hard descent when they started to sieze up. Opened them up - completely dry. Must've been leaking out slowly enough to be washed off during cleaning. No amount of fork juice made a difference obviously.
I use finish line wet lube on my stations then wipe excess off, never had problems and forks have always remained smooth,I wouldn't use gt85 or wd40 only for cleaning not lubing.
While we are on the fork subject, does anyone lay their forks upside down so the oil inside gets distributed all around the lowers,a friend of mine does but I'm not convinced???
The forks have only been on since Jan and ridden a couple of times so shouldn't be buggered, and stored right way round. The gt85 was recommended by by a lad at my lbs so hope it wouldn't do anything to the seals. Might use the fork juice and then get them serviced if still in doubt.

It's been in the manual for several forks I've owned. Otherwise the seals can get dry.
Ok thanks mol grips that clears up that then,I'll dig out my manual and have a Ganda.
