Noticed the below area - underneath my bottom bracket - On One Carbon 29er frame. Given how infrequently I clean/service my bike, it could have been done on a rock yesterday at Glentress, or could have been there for a year. Overall affected area is maybe 1.5-2 inches long, and max an inch wide.
What's the STW opinion - can I continuing riding it until it either breaks or I eventually get a new bike, or will I die if I even look at it wrong?
Yes, you will die. All people with scuffs to the outer cosmetic surface of their carbon frames die. Eventually.
Hard to tell from the pic, but it doesn't even look like you've broken any fibres, it's just the resin which is damaged.
I'd carry on riding that, possibly repair the resin but I wouldn't stress about it. Check back periodically or if it starts making any unusual noises.
Perhaps phone OO and get their take on it.
We're all going to die. Why would you be any different?
Totally fixable recent example...
Give it a tap if it sounds hollow compared to the rest then its delaminated.
Apparently much easier to repair than people think.
