It will fit but you will have a rounder profile and may not be able to run low pressures or the tyre might role off the rim. I quite like a rounder profile tyre.

I've run that size tyre (but a Nevegal) on touring rims (Mavic MA3, so Open Sport now I think?) for years on-and-off, as there were no cheap 29er wheels available at the time, with no issues.

I ran 26x2.25" Nics on XC717s, running 25psi as standard, never even burped a tyre, let alone rolled one.

People obsess over this WAY too much!
