I had to stop here. Somewhere in South Devon, not sure where, the air is heavy with the smell of wild garlic. It's intoxicating. Anyone else?

Leaves are everywhere up here. No smell yet. Spring's a bit slower this year.

It’s been out for weeks almost at its end of season now. I know where though.

Love the stuff. Must go and harvest, later in the year the flowers can be pickled which are delicious (and sweet!).

Chef on Craig Charles' yesterday was discussing "wild garlic loaded chips". Sounded unreal!

Idea : you know how Italians batter and fry courgette flowers … how about doing that with wild garlic flowers? [ with or without chips ]

Loads up around Hampshire but feels slow / late this year. I always go out with a bag so I can pick a bit for soups, stuffing roast chickens etc.

Picked some while on holiday in Exmoor last weekend. Had a lovely bruschetta type thing with wild garlic, tomatoes, oil, salt/pepper and a few herbs on some baguette cut into discs. Got polished off pretty sharpish by the family!

loads near us. Never seen so much.

So picked loads at the weekend; scones already made, and pesto in the friday ready for the pasta.

I'll go and get some more this weekend.

Visited Mum today and walked by the Water of Leith out Colinton way. Loads there - picked a little and tasted it - lovely! Picked some high enough up a steep bank to be less likely to be covered in dugs’ pish. Heavy rain earlier too, so….

Went out picking a couple of weekends ago, got 1-2kg. A wood not far away has a carpet almost as far as the eye can see.
Have made:

two types of pesto, one walnut one pine nut, two different soups, wild garlic and chick pea curry, pesto bread, mini pesto quiches. I am slightly obsessed with the stuff. Today at work I had a double whammy of wg soup and wg pesto bread. Heaven!

Been growing ours in a tub at the top of the garden for a couple of years next to the rhubarb tub.

Always nice to pick it fresh when it's growing

This was at the beginning of March

Made a small batch of pesto last week, mix of cashew/walnut/pecorino though I need some better quality olive oil with a nice sweet grassy flavour. Have frozen some and thinking of cramming what's left under the skin of a roast chicken.

live in London but lucky enough to have a small nature reserve over the road with a little patch, few locals pick there but nobody seems to take the piss. There is a bigger wood down the road so I’m going to have an explore and hopefully find a bigger supply.

Always a pleasure to see it coming up, normally after the snowdrops have gone over and the daffs are fading, but before the bluebells here in south wales. I’ve noticed a few bluebells are coming earlier before the ramsons have flowered though. Goes great with a dhal, or cheese sarnies, or pasta. Yum.

@tracey, is it easy to grow, was going to buy seeds, but germinating instructions put me off...

"Keep at 18-22°C for 2-4 weeks, before moving to area -4°C-+4°C for 4-6 weeks to cold stratify. Then move back to 5-12°C, where the seeds should germinate."

We don't seem to get it here in North Norfolk at all, miss living on south coast and the smell as you ride through..

I crashed in some recently around the Ochil hills and my gear still smells of garlic.

@scud

I bought 25 wild garlic bulbs from eBay £5.99, stuck them in a tub of compost at the top of the garden and they have gone mad ever since

I cut 10 leaves of yesterday to put in a slow cooker recipe and you cant even see where they have come from, pic above was at the beginning of March when they had just started coming through for this year, tub is now overflowing and has flowers coming through

Plant it in a tub though as it's invasive.

You southern fannies, can’t believe the amount of wild garlic out! No sign of WG where I am for another few week at least. I am of course jealous of missing out on lovely pesto…

edit:‘there’s a few north of the border posts, maybe it’s the altitude that’s slowing things down here. Can’t wait for it!

North of the border - on the bank facing the visitor car park at Lagavulin there is a sea of it and some flowering.

You can use it in anything where you would use spinach or really in anything you cook. omelette, chopped up finely into mash, in a curry, soup etc. If you have a food processor you could try making pesto. It’s super simple.

Three of my favourite outdoor smells can be found at three of the local 'Stanes.

Mabie's great for wild garlic, loads around the hotel and car parks.

Dalbeattie's lush with yellow, coconutty/buttery scented gorse.

Ae, I've yet to identify what produces is but on warm sunny evenings (we've yet to have any this year) something kicks out a beautiful toasted sherbet type of smell. It's gorgeous but I've no idea what it is.
