I have a sort of plan to drive down to Penmachno one Friday evening in the van and do a quick blast on the Saturday morning and head home in time for lunch. Is it possible to overnight camp in the little car park/trail head area?

This old quarry would be more interesting and there are some old (ruined) buildings to give some shelter:

Slept in the carpark at the start in my van a couple of times never had a problem. Never put a tent up though. Conwy Falls cafe is good for food and toilet!

Penmachno car park would scare the crap out of me over night. It's remote, bleak and likely you'll have wolves at your door.

Remote and beautiful at night. Only sheep at the door.
