The Wild Boar Chase is back for another year on Sunday May 15th 2016.

A Mountain Bike challenge with up to 45 miles of Forest tracks and Bridleways with short sections of quiet roads in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. The Small Boar, the shortest route will provide an enjoyable challenge for riders who are looking for a little more than the Freeminer and Verderers Trail at Cannop Cycle Centre. The Full and Wye Boar will take you out of the Forest and down rocky descents and up long picturesque climbs of the Wye Valley.

Distance/Difficulty:
4 routes are provided ranging from 21 to 45 miles
Route Options
The Full Boar (45 miles) covers the whole profile shown above.
In the Wye Boar (40 miles), riders take the Wye Valley Loop.
In the Forest Boar (26 miles) riders tackle the Forest Loop.
The Small Boar (21 miles) leaves the Full Boar at about 15 miles.

Are they going to sort out the carnage that was queuing to finish for a huge number of us last year?

Entered again cos I love the event, but it was rather annoying having just spent 5 hard hours in the saddle to then have to stand around for ages in a queue just to cross the finish line!

Also had that at the finish. After sprinting out the last section, then have to stand for 10mins to get through the gate!

Have booked on again though as it was an enjoyable route and a good event if riding as a group!

I found the best way to avoid the queues was to be really, really far behind. Though I was still finished (just) in time for a couple of cakes, a burger and a little cry before I drove home.

Think I'll give it another shot, thanks for the reminder.

Did the full boar last year, didn't have to Que to finish. Did have to Que for 40mins to do the first bit of single track which was annoying but expected with that many riders at a mass start event. Good fun day, might do one of the shorter ones this year.

I'm considering entering. I don't know much about the event but we are in the Fod that weekend. 160mm full sus or CX bike? Don't fancy the full boar. Which of the shorter loops is the most fun?

That's a tricky one. There's a lot of fire road involved that would suit a CX bike, but I wouldn't fancy doing the descents on the same bike. At the same time 160mm FS is overkill IMO.

If you don't fancy the full boar, then I'd recommend the wye boar. The small and forest routes are a bit too short for my liking.

I'm doing the Full Boar...should be fun coming off a 'new baby no training' block!

Do we have an STW handshake to recognise fellow members?! (Yes, I know that was a massive thread about this a while ago....I still say STW tattoos....my wife would disagree though!)

Just look out for some lively banter about a tree? 😉

Just wanted to thank the organisers and all the volunteers for putting it on yesterday. Going at a slightly slower pace this year made me realise how many people had given up their (beautiful) Sunday to support the event.
And despite riding in the area a lot over the last 4 years, it still introduced me to a couple of new sections. (Although I do wonder if the burial path might be better as a descent!)
