I’d like the hive to recommend a good quality flat bar bike with the following features, if you would be so kind.....
700c/29er wheels
Rigid fork
Decent spec-slx/105 maybe?
Hydro discs
Rear Rack mounts
Lightish if possible
Budget maybe up to £1500?

Not for gnar mountain biking, but robust enough to carry light luggage down a disused railway/canal tow path, main use as everyday do everything with family, occasionally light touring, needs to be geared to get up a Lakeland pass or 2.

Thanks a lot folks!

Doesn't seem to be much in the why of wsd bikes with an half decent spec,my other half as a Giant Liv avail but Giant don't seem to do it with flat bars anymore

I bought a pinnacle cobalt frame from Evans and built my wife one up. Put a 48t triple crankset on it with a mixture xt and deore gears and shimano hydro brakes. Bought some second hand carbon 29er forks and she now has 2 sets of wheels, 1 set up with faster 35mm gravel tyres and the other with some bigger mtb tyres. It's the comfiest bike I've ever ridden.

Cost me about £3/400ish. If you bling it up with nicer group set and wheels it'd be great.

Just weighed it, just over 11kg with cheap wheels.

I did nearly the same as ads. Pinnacle Lithium mixte type frame plus forks and headset, £135. Everything else I had in parts bin. Really nice bike, surprisingly nice! light, zippy, smooth, fun. Got cx speeds and sit up and beg bars on there. It's done nursery run, stands and disused railway paths, but it'd do well on right tracks, especially with bigger tyres and different bars.

We worked out that a lot of CX or road bikes just don't have the low gears needed for touring or big n steep hills.

I would err more towards a gravel or tourer.

My wife is very happy with her Cube SL road - the basic model but with step-thru frame

It's a good bike. They do higher spec versions

Build up a Holdsworth Mystique frameset into a flat bar tourer?

I got a Liv (giant) rove 2 disc on sale for about 350quid. Hybrid, 700c wheels, Full acera group, hydro brakes. Great value, she loves it so far.

This looks really nice in the flesh and very light for the money. Reasonable gears, hydro brakes, carbon fork etc. Good reviews off purchasers. Only small left.

What like are the Claris gears? Thinking about this bike for my 13yr old.
