building a cx singlespeed.mainly for commuting. Paths, lanes bws etc.
Want something like a gravel king. Wondered if its worth putting something wider upfront? (There rear will be constrained more by the clearance of the chainstays)
I have mtbs with wider fronts...just wondered if its a thing in the gravel world
We use 40c fronts on a couple of cx frames that will on take a 35c max in the rear, makes a noticeable difference over a 35 front
Bigger contact patch at the cost of aero drag. Saving a front tyre slide is hell of a lot harder than saving a rear tyre slide.

I doubt it. I have ridden gravel for 20 years on narrow tyres and never had an issue with lateral grip on front or rear. For me, riding gravel is generally riding in straight lines and not going fast around very tight corners.
my gravel bike has 48c (29x1.75 actually) front and 40c rear. Also more tread out front. Works fine for me both on and off road
