Recently replaced my 710mm Havens with 780mm Fatbars on my 'big bike' I was expecting they would feel better descending but they also felt better climbing which with that width I wasn't expecting. Had anyone else found this...?
I've gone from 685 to 740mm and I've noticed the same.
Maybe better leveredge to work against when out of the pedals, maybe the new position puts me in a better position for climbing?
I think that may be part of it. I also felt like I was breathing easier - maybe with wider spaced hands my chest is more 'open'...?
Fitting wider bars without shortening the stem or adding spacers to compensate will shift your upper body down and forward, so no surprise it feels better climbing.
Shortened the stem by 20mm at the same time - should have mentioned that...
