Evening,
I'm thinking of replacing the Rockshox Monarch Debonair that came with the bike (2016) with something else - just for a change if nothing else.

Has anyone got any favorite upgrades that would be a big improvment?

I've currently got my eye on a Cane Creek DB Air shock or a Fox Float DPS - any opinions on these?

Cheers y'all.
Stu

Due to my stock shock sounding like it had really bad asthma Rock Shox upgraded mine to the Momarch with the piggy back (can’t recall name).
It is much better than the original and as good as a Fox’s equivalent.

Monarch Plus RC3 @sam3000? They did the same for me after my Monarch got stuck down. It's OK but interested if people see improvements with something else.

Improvement is going to depend on lots of things and also how much you can configure the shock...has the current shock had all possible tuning done to it?

Its the original Monarch debonair with original tune (mid?) - totally stock I imagine and probably an oem version.

I'm a bit out of my depth with tuning, in my ignorance was thinking I'd get a 'better' one off the shelf and reap the benefits.
Its had 3 seasons of punishment so could do with a service. The service isn't far off what I've found some nearly new shocks for. Its wasteful I know but was thinking a better model shock for the same money would give me a better performance.

Does anyone know if the original shock Whyte shipped the bike with are a custom tune? My original one didn't last long enough for me to take a look, replacement Monarch Plus def feels much more linear. I now run less sag as a result, but would some volume reducers help?

If he sends it away for tuning he'll likely be told the shaft is scored and it's scrap anyway. Might as well have a look at something new

I've got the 2017 T130 RS and it comes with the Fox Float DPS Performance. It feels really good and has done from new. I notice a real difference with the 3 position options, firm great for fire road climbs etc, middle for general trail, and open for hooning. To be fair it pedals well in middle or open too.
It may have a custom tune, ask Whyte, TF etc should be able to match it.

I would either consider a cane creek dB air (IL or air).

The t130 uses the same shock size as the g160 so 216x63 , between myself and a friend weve both run monarchs, monarch plus rtc3 the cane creek db will be a very tight fit , a friend has run a cane creek coil on his 13o and he swore by it, I changed to a Fox DPX2 factory on my 160 and that was nothing shy of fantastic. that's where my money would be if I was riding a 130

Ta, great source of info, missed that. One recommendation on shock is the Monarch Plus with ML3 tune as the frame is low leverage. Need to find out what the one they sent me is somehow. This is 2-year-old info of course.
