I was looking at this T129 long term review. I usually take magazine reviews with a large pinch of salt, but a long term review should highlight and issues.

So, can a harsh feeling through the bars really be down to the frame, rather than forks, wheels, bars and stem? Also, is the Whyte 4-bar suspension as bad as they imply?

I'd be interested in seeing if your "crack prone" comment is honest or overblown, from owners. As I've heard of 2013 frames having there rear end replaced (not loads) but wasn't sure if the 2014 onward still had this issue?

Mine's a 2014 'Works' model. I would also say that the front feels slightly harsh, but I'm convinced that the forks are to blame (Fox FIT CTD). They just don't seem plush enough, particularly over small bumps. What's wrong with the rear suspension? It seems fine to me. Fab bike, highly recommended.

The criticism of the suspension was that "very rough stuff such as high-speed braking bumps and rocks make the back-end choke up and feel harsh", which sounds more like bad shock settings to me.

Don't they all feel harsh in those situations? It's not been a problem to me. It's a push bike, not a motocrosser.

Having ridden -a host of 5 inch+ full sus bikes, Yeti 575- single pivot, Giant Trance x -Maestro linkage, Spech Enduro- Faux bar,etc..i was expecting something good from this 4" Quad link system. Its incredible stiff in the back end !, -to me feels like 2" opened up-its so stiff, just don't feel that plush, especially over rocky (ish ) / fast descents.
There is definetely the flex on the WTB rims- changing those -also tyres.
Front tyre-upgrade to Maxxis high roller 2- 3c compound 2.25 / 2.25 NN -2.25 2015 tread to rear. Climbing also feels heavier / dont know if its the wheel size / 2 x 10 set-up / but the Yeti 575 was far better climbing , also Maestro linkage on the Trance. Im gonna trash it over the next few months with the upgrades - but its definitely set up for your Swinley Forrest -fast swoopy forest single track / as apposed to some of the heavier more demanding terrain here in Wales. I hope i am proved wrong but would the extra inch 130 travel on the 27.5 wheel been the better option? Whyte have pushed the boundaries here with this slack 29er full sus- so cudos to them for tackling the design. If only the quad link suspension felt a bit plusher.! btw-£1,900 for the Works model 2014. 😛
