I am literally tenting!

I do remember you telling not to buy one in 2004. Glad I didn't listen, I've earned nearly ten years of ridicule out of it! 😆

get the mudguards, bottle cage and steerer tube extender off, and put the bike on a flat surface and it'd not be so bad. As it is, its not doing it any favours

I have one in the Imperial Hanger, it looks even more wrong as a commuter with bar ends and conti slicks on it. BUT the number of roadies that have had bad wobbles taking it in has been more than worth it!

Is that a carbon swingarm and front fork??

That is an utter travesty. The red and black actually makes it look ok for a Preston, but the mudguards and steerer are an unassailable affront to aesthetics.

It may have looks that only a mother could love, but you have to admire the engineering.

I think that what gets me is that it's all so utterly unnecessary. And yes I have ridden a PRST-1.

A single shock for front sus, instead of 2 bouncy fork legs, makes sense to me. That idea's going to come back.

Maybe when it does, the design won't need to incorporate 327 headset spacers

I spotted it the other night on the bay, I have just finished cleaning up the sick.

Plenty of crap bikes in the world but this one stands out due to the level of execution in terms of the initial R&D, engineering, the quality of the components and the bike has clearly been well loved and looked after. Yet the end result is a sum much lower than its parts. It is goping!

Yeah but most FS are gopping (tho that is one of the goppingest).

How do they ride?

Thats not a Preston

its a PRST4 unless I'm mistaken - different rear swing arm - the PRST1 came out and under the BB.

Haters always going to hate - but they rode amazingly well if your riding style suited the front end - they were wallowy and divey in tight/steep single track, but if you were riding moorland/polaris type stuff, then they kicked everything else in the nads.

That is a bit tragic! it's been done up to look like something from Kick Ass!

It's a far nobler bike than the one shown here implies. Jon Whyte is a genius.

The PRST-4 was designed by Jon Whyte's mate/business partner Adrian Ward who worked with him in fomula 1.

It was names after Preston the nasty dog from Wallace and Gromit

And he's still working on new bikes

Nice frame. I normally hate 29er aesthetics but that's almost Art Deco retro.

What did JW go on to do? Anyone know?
