On my Whyte 901 V1 2019 i have a Rockshox Sektor RL 27.5 debon air. i have to pump it up more than the suggested psi for my weight or it dives into its travel too much on corners. Its a fairly average fork from what i have heard. so question is, is it worth an upgrade and if so what would be better that wouldn't break the bank? i can't fault anything else on the bike.
I think the Sektor has 32mm stanchions and at best it’s going to be motion control damping.
Ideally I’d look at a Pike, as that is both stiffer and has a better damper but they can be fairly expensive so it depends on your budget.
The 35mm stanchion revelation is a halfway house - it has the chassis of the Pike but a less good damper.
You could look for what for the new Marzocchi Bomber Z2 as I think that’s fairly decent or a Fox 34 (broadly the same fork I think).
Sometimes you find some X Fusion forks going for a good price at Planet X too - sweep or slant I think.
Edit - it also might be worth checking if you can add bottomless tokens to your existing fork - that would mean you don’t need such a high air pressure (so the start of the stroke would be softer) but the tokens would help it ramp up towards the end so you don’t wallow so much / bottom out.
