Why would a tubeless tire suddenly leak round the edge?

Rode into work this morning parked the bike up and it's leaking air all round the rim/ bead.

Why would it suddenly leak round the edges?

The tire was noticeably soft when I arrived.

Tube in for the way home. 🙄

Has the sealant all dried up? I had the same thing last week and this proved to be the issue in my case.

Did you burp it? Sounds like the tyre unseated slightly and is trying to reseal itself. Either that or it is possible to pinch the tyre against the rim and put a hole in it. That's usually accompanying by another hole on the tread of the tyre though.

Stick more sealant in, it happens!

If it's an older tyre run at lower pressures (assuming a road/gravel bike) could you have worn out the bead/tyre interface?

Depending on exactly where the leak is!

I've had similar issue with dried up sealant - some tyre/rim combos just need a bit of sealant to stay air tight.. In once instance I didn't have access to my garage for a while - I asked in the LBS if there was a good solution to this that wasn't tubes and they put Orange Seal in for me. It forms a bit more of a membrane than other sealants and turns the tyre into a quasi-tubular so even when it dries out you're less likely to get such a leak.

Might be worht a try.

Thanks,

I how it's not the sealant as I only converted it to tubeless after Christmas.

The tires are gravel kings, about 2000 miles in. Front looks fine rear tread is a little worn.

I ride to work sedately, no smashing berms or jumps. I can't imagine burping it on a smooth bike path or normal roads.

Last time I tried orange seal it formed the most hideous mess. I'd rather have tubes.

The tire is mostly still up, I'll give it a bit more air and see if it holds up.

Maybe tubeless has worked its magic 🙂

If it holds I'll pop some more sealant in.
