It's the editor now in use. Here's some copied in from a code editor which doesn't have formatting in the text:
Just some test text
write it in something like wordpad (presumably that's non-formatted)
Ta
is there a way of generating adverts etc off line and pasting like you just have with Microsoft office?
or does it all have to be generated in post or on the site?
Wordpad uses RTF for formatting, use Notepad or something like that. If you see buttons for "bold", 'italic', etc. then you'll get the guff when pasted here.
Once you've pasted the plain text then use the buttons here to format it.
Cheers
this is from notepad and appears to work.

Thanks again
Either right click and "Paste as plain text", or Ctrl + Shift + V
Not really fair to blame the editor on here for all that crap. It's Word that is providing all the styling and formatting crap instead of just the content.
Would be great if browsers implemented paste as plain text!
Shit stealth ad btw
Not really fair to blame the editor on here?
I tired to copy what you wrote to quote it three times and couldn't, and when I copy stuff to quote using Chrome on a pc it frequently ends up with all that formatting shite in it. It might look all shiny, but the usability of this forum is in the toilet.
@Del - did you copy the user name as well? It's copying that that messes quoting up:
<div class="bbp-reply-author">
<div class="bbp-author-role">
<div class="">Subscriber</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="bbp-reply-content">Not really fair to blame the editor on here?
</div>
Compare with this:
Not really fair to blame the editor on here?
That's a different issue. Although the shite around it looks the same it isn't (though both are html). What your getting is extra html from the copy paste out of the web page, it makes a mess as invariably its an invalid/incomplete segment of markup is captured. The editor doesn't handle this. What the OP posted is Word html, which is a complete and utter ballache to deal with (VOE have wasted days handling this in an app before).
Below is from wordpad (formatted with bold and italic)
test bold italic
edit, yeap paste from formatted wordpad is fine. Its normally just word that produces the crap above .
Does Onenote work from Android?
Test
Edit :
Where's the quote box thing?
IANAITbod
@nixie - I know, I replied to the OP earlier in the thread about the mess that is Word. That post was specifically about copying and pasting from within threads as asked by Del.
Think there was a bit of cross posting, mine was meant as a reply to del rather than you :).
OK, no egos were hurt in the production of this thread!
Copy from Word etc you normally want the formatting to go with it to paste into another formatting aware application or another Word document. Same copying from a web page into similar documents.
The problem is purely the editor here. It allows formatting to be pasted in, which is great, but it bollocks up the rendering and shows all the HTML formatting text instead.
If it can't render it, it should paste it as plain text.
As for copy, paste to quote someone, if we'd had the actual quote button which would do it all for you then this wouldn't be a problem, but... 😉
If you don't want formatting at all, just copy into notepad and copy back out. Will ensure formatting crap is removed. Handy for quoting.
Wordpad - @nixie - I'm not see your text formatted bold and italic.
Besides that, I'm surprised Wordpad still exists.
p.s. adverts?

It's entirely fair to blame the editor on here. It's supposedly a WYSIWYG editor, so it should show what it is you're posting. If it was a WYSIWYG editor which worked then you'd get the formatting instead of all that guff, if it was a plain text editor it wouldn't paste the formatting and all would still be fine.
The work around has already been posted though - CTRL-SHIFT-V to paste plain text and pretend it's a plain text editor.
