Ovr the weekedn I will be carrying out a lower leg service on some Reba forks.
Double checking the oil chart it states 5mm of oil for each leg.
Its been a while since I've had to do a lower leg service but that seems a tiny amount.....
I will stick with what it says but why have such small quantities of oil lubricating the lowers?
Looks at Bomber in the corner of the room with 55ml in each leg!
not much volume of free space so more could cause hydraulic locking.
More would mean more weight and more cost to manufacture (tiny but over 10,000 forks adds up) 2x 50ml is approx 100g. Could mean the difference between someone choosing a different brand.
More would also mean more waste
But more would also probably mean less wear and more life out of the forks...
I have added more to my Pikes than is recommended and it seems they're harder to bottom out but have noticed no other ill effects. I have dual position ones that can't take Bottomless Tokens so it may well be a good thing.
