[Closed] Why should I not want a Trek Remedy?

Been umming and ahhing for ages about FS. Always been happy on a hardtail, but riding with faster people, spending more time on tech trails, and a demo on a FS (SB130 - lovely but too pricey!) has opened my eyes to opportunities for having more fun, trying more stuff more often on a FS and prised open my wallet just a chink.

Probably won't buy this year (probably...) but the one I keep going back to is the Trek Remedy. probably the ally XT one. I want a fun, jumpy, raggable bike, rather than a bottomless enduro smasher, and this seems to do pretty well in that slot.

Any reasons why I shouldn't? Only negatives I've read are that some people don't like the knock block, but I'm not chomping at the bit to learn bar spins, and if its the logical thing to do after making ride quality decisions, then I can't see a problem with it.

Anyone hate theirs? Are Trek decent enough for warranty stuff?

Ta!

Nice bike that will do exactly what you want.

Pressfit BB will make your bike creak like a barn door.

Yes, easily the best I've dealt with (I work in a shop)

I know 2 people with the alloy remedy with gx Eagle / Lyriks / Guides etc. They both like their - one has had a particularly hard life but still going strong.

I haven’t ridden it but it sounds like it’s quite fun to ride. Plenty of travel but it’s not gone exceedingly long like the full on enduro bikes.

Cheers all!.

I knew there was something! Maybe they'll move to t47 next year like some of their road bikes...?

My son has one. Bought a 2018 carbon model off a Pink bike seller for a great price. It's a superb bike and the way he sprints past me up hills, I think it goes up as well as it does down! It is quite a lot of bike, probably even the carbon model weighs 30lb. And I prefer 29er, personally.
Knock block was mentioned a few times when he first started riding it, but not since (except yesterday when my bars swung round and he said "you need a lock block" 🙂 )
Also - not heard a single peep out of the bb, didn't even know it was pressfit.

Oh yes- they are the demo/hire bikes at BPW, which is how we made the choice.
Looks good n'all

Reaktiv shock (or whatever buzz word Trek are using for whatever stupid, ineffective propietary modification they've made to their shocks this time) would be a deal breaker for me

Currently riding a ALU 2018 Remedy 8 (27.5) Absolutely love it! Fun, comfortable and pedally - I use it for pretty much everything. Uplift days, XC rides (just rode a 50 miler on it) and even a few attempts at dirt jumps when I'm feeling particularly brave!
Touch on the heavy side maybe, but they just do everything very well.

Cheers again, all sounds good. don't see why internal shock mods would be an issue, as long as it's standard dimensions so you can replace it if there's an issue, unlike Norco Optic with its odd length.

Still no1 on the list then. 2021 models should be out soon...

I've never had an issue with a pressfit BB and if you do just get a Wheels MFG one that screws together. Yes a threaded BB would be my choice but I wouldn't let it dictate my bike purchase.

Mine has a press fit BB, it doesn't creak. Well, that bit doesn't creak, the saddle and the slightly worn rear pivot do.

It's mostly the reactiv shock and suspension design that's made me keep my Remedy 29 so long- best suspension I've ever had, on anything. I don't like proprietary stuff but when it actually gives a benefit I'll accept it.

Another consideration: This track comes to mind about half the time I see the word "Remedy". Imagine if I did actually get the Remedy...

This track comes to mind for me, which soothes some of my issues with the bike.

Fantastic bike to ride, climbs well, descends well, jumps well, just a great all rounder in my opinion. I bought the roscoe 7 hardtail thinking it would be enough for what I was riding, 2 months later the Remedy appeared in my garage and I havent contemplated swapping it once

And for what it's worth the trek warranty is in a league of it's own compared with other manufacturers I've dealt with, but yet to have any press fit issues and it's taken nothing short of abuse from me

I have a 2019 Remedy. (On ebay at the moment)
I like everything about it. The knock block isn’t an issue wen riding. Can be a pain if you want to lay the bike down in the car.
The shock size is 230x57.5. These are produced by all the big names. The reaktiv valving makes the bike excellent. Plenty of support for peddling an active when descending.
Its more of a long legged trail bike than a full on enduro bike.

As said by others in the trade Trek have the best warranty going . I prefer a 29" wheel so would go Slash or Fuel but if 27.5 floats your boat it will be a great bike .

My mate has one, think it’s the 2018 or 2019 in carbon. Having had a few goes on it rides well and he seems loads quicker on it. Really good choice if you get one

i have a fuel EX, awesome bike, more than enough for my standard of riding (mine is 130mm rear 140mm front) knock block is never an issue, pressfit BB had me thinking/worrying, but the Trek warranty allayed my fears and after over a year of hard riding its not made a single noise

I've had a 2014 remedy then fell heir to 2018 one, Absolutely tremendous bikes and for me anyway a real Skills compensator. The only reason I sold mine was to buy a 2019 slash which rides very similar just feels faster in a straight line. I wouldn't worry about the knock block unless you really want a blingy stem . I'm glad I bought a slash as really liked my sons commencal meta am and for my budget the Trek seemed pretty close.

If they haven't already sold BPW were selling theirs off cheap.

I’ve got a 29er alloy one(ancient - 2017!). Mines fitted with a coil rear shock and it’s flippin brilliant. I’ve had a fair few decent bikes and without question this is the most versatile and certainly the most fun 29er I’ve owned. I didn’t get on with the air shock but then I don’t like air shocks.

I think the only bike I’d trade it for would be a carbon Fuel EX but that’ll only happen when it breaks.

Just bought one a couple of weeks ago... Remedy 8 XT build. Really chuffed with it particularly the climbing aspect. Goes down just as well. As an all rounder it wins hands down.
