I'm in my 40's and remember the news being, well more newsy than it is now. Seems that most of the current news is just celeb gossip, things about market "feelings", house price "feelings" and all sorts of other shite that isn't actually reporting anything significant in the world unless it has a direct impact on UK people's bank balances or possibly holiday plans.

I like a story about a tortoise with lego wheels as much as the next bloke but today's news seems almost completely asinine and I'm confused as to why this has become the case, any ideas?

It's because all the "news" sources are owned by rich people who wish to stay rich by using the media to manipulate the little guy.

Agree, UK news is very poor and getting worse. Hence now only watch the news from the German public broadcasters. Far better/balanced reporting of stories from all around the world and lots of detail about Europe including Brexit. They also do a detailed daily report from the stock exchange before the main evening news which assumes a degree of intelligence from the viewer. Far less in the way of gossip stories. Real people, sat at a desk reading from papers, not wandering round with green-screen graphics. All in all, has a similar feel to the BBC news of about 30 years ago.

PR now a well oiled machine. Press offices and agents feed the media with easy sanitised stories. No need to do any leg work anymore.

Might also be because we expect to get it for free now so news 'sources' are more interested in volume of visitors that quality of what they put out. With exceptions of course

I thought the last few weeks have been a total news bonanza!

The great things about today is that you can pick your own news diet. Russia Today, Fox, Beeb, Al Jazeera, Ch4... Good to mix it up.
