Had a xr4 on the rear of my bike but there was a bit of a clearance issue, but they worked fine on wet rock so changed to xr3 and they are pants even slipping underload going up roads even @ the same pressures the tread pattern is completly different.
Might have to trim some xr4s

I think the Bonty numbering scheme is XR1 for nearly slick race tyre for dry conditions, through to XR4 for most aggressive loose conditions, with XR2 and XR3 sitting in between.

If its issues on wet rock and roads, its more of a rubber compound thing.

Personally, I really like the newer style XR4s. 60a/42a dual compound, I have 2.35 on the front and 2.2 on the back.

Seriously?

Why do SIDs and Boxxers have different travel?

Why are my shorts not as long as my jeans?

Why does my 2l Golf not go as fast as my (sadly hypothetical) 5.2l R8?

Get some narrower XR4s, assuming they are available in different widths?

If you look at this years tyres there is very little difference in the tread pattern
http://bontrager.com/products/components/tires#chooser
and link to the cross country tyres

a lesson learned i suppose,I would expect a big change from say xr1 to the xr4s
xr3

xr4

yep, tyres for different conditions are different shocker.

interestingly the XR3 is discontinued on the Bonty website.

Sorry but the XR3 and XR4 look totally different, visibly much bigger nobbles on the XR4.

And there is a massive difference between XR1s and XR4s, with intermediate steps between them in the form of the XR2 and XR3.

I thought the old XR3 tread looked sketchy but the new design looks great, quite like a X-King. Nice on the back with an XR4 up front.

Surely you can tell us the answer to that, they're your tyres!

looks like you've got the old-style XR3 and the new XR4. Get another new XR4. what sizes are you using?

Bandito I was referring to Garys post on the new tyres on the Bonti website 😀

Saddle is straight as an arrow! Well it is with my wonky eyes

I know slightly less than nothing about tyres.

But that's what I thought just from reading the title 🙂

XR3's are pretty bad, my rear lasted a day on the flinty south downs, apparently bonty tyres have a 30 day money back guarantee if you're not happy, I left it a little late.

In those product shots above - the new xr3 looks like old xr4..

I got on ok with xr3 on the back & xr4 on front.

xr3 was a little delicate and came up a bit thin and low volume - rolled fast though.

With xr3 Team TLR I never had any real traction problems.. I no longer have these tyres/bike though. Think I prefer them to Aspen I run now which are a bit meh.. Not running Aspen tubeless though.

Looking the pic of tyre on your bike, I'm wondering if it would work better with tread the other way? Are you running tubeless - low 20s made big difference for me. Hated them till then...
