This has baffled me for years, well since I went SRAM eagle in gold tbh but still?... Hope, surely you're missing a decent slab of the market by not offering the gold finish? I mean ideally I only really want the big/small bore caps gold... Surely this is achievable?
Because it looks even worse than purple anodised bits???
They definitely used to - I had gold Hope Bulbs BITD, mid-2000s I think.
Because it looks even worse than purple anodised bits???
I don’t believe you didn’t ever have purple bites on your bike Rich.
I wish they still did the gunsmoke they used to do.
Think Orange took over from gold.
Gold, Gunsmoke and Green all used to fade quite fast, and obviously.
The black and gold brakes still look great.
You can get yellow. It looks like gold to me, or near enough. I have to admit I don't have a hub made from real gold to compare with.
And green ones.
For fancy!
Because coloured anodised tat components are the work of the devil and should be banned?
Nope, I didn't have purple or gold...both looked terrible, however, the purple was bearable compared to the gold.
However, re-reading the OP, the gold bore caps are a nice touch on the black caliper and I thought you could buy those as spares.
Black and gold is a timeless combo used by some of the most iconic companies... John Player Special Lotus for example.
The caps are all I need TBH... I'll see what's available on the website.
Yep, gunsmoke was always my favourite. The green and gold also looked good. I've seen a fair bit of old red hope stuff that is now light pink. Bring back salsa rasta skewers!
I'd assume because it looks shit.

Said Mr Dull from Grey Town.
Anyway, as said, they certainly used to so imagine it didn't sell that well? Not a fan of black/gold personally and it made me sad when my new bike came with a gold chain.
I’ve got a pile of Hope gold parts on my purple Stooge. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc. I like it, but then I have no taste.
The gold was discontinued when they introduced orange. The gold hasn’t faded really, but the red was never the same colour on any two components.
2013 they were still producing gold components as my black and gold nicolai will attest to. Still looks good. JPS inspired..
I wish they still did the gunsmoke they used to do.
Yep, gunsmoke was always my favourite.
+1 for gunsmoke
Got a gold pro 2 on my grav bike
Did someone say Gold ?

As to purple...

Not a stealth ad because I really dont need to sell and being a hoarder appeals to my nature 🙂
Hope, surely you’re missing a decent slab of the market by not offering the gold finish?
I don't think I've ever based my component choices on what colours I could get them in.
And green ones.
I wanted to green to compliment my DVO shock but apparently it's team riders only.
Is there anyone offering re-anodising services?
Yeah, you can get stuff re-anodised, some of the retro lads have done it.
.
They stopped doing it as it fell out of fashion and it was also a pain to get different batches to match.
I used to have gold Hope bits on my old Orange 5 when it was it's original black with gold decals (they did a special Black and Gold version for a while and I just happened to order a black frame when they were making them just before they announced it. Should have been white decals but I wasn't complaining!). Did the discs, chainring, seat clamp, caliper bore caps and lever adjusters in gold but the hubs, calipers and levers were black. Didn't stay that way for long, maybe 2 years, before I got the frame resprayed a dark blue and everything went black. Even in those 2 short years I had trouble with the gold fading (one side of the seat clamp was darker than the other thanks to a window) and when I upped the front disc size for a holiday in Chatel the replacement was a good two shades darker than the old disc.
I don't think it helped matters that their gold was a fair bit lighter than the Kashima Gold on forks and a bit more brash than other manufacturer's gold too. Plus tastes changed and the classic Black and Gold just fell out of favour.

For every one of these, there are so many gold anodized abominations that look like a meth dealer's mouth.
That said, my own bike is dripping in purple ano and I like it a lot.
Because it looks even worse than purple anodised bits???
Think Orange took over from gold.
What is it with Orange ? I bought a 2nd hand Soul smattered with Orange hope bits, presumably because it nearly matches the orange frame logo, and yet doesn't match so just looks bad. If anyone wants to swap Orange Pro4 hub wheels for black, I'm all ears.

I always find this a bit odd.
Shell sponsors BC and everyone's up in arms burning their membership forms.
Paint your bike in another* oil or tobaco companies livery though and people fawn over it.
*fun fact; Gulf oil no longer exist. They merged with Standard Oil of California to form Chevron in the 80's. Now it's primarily just IP sold as a franchise to forecourt operators.
** Other fun fact, people don't enjoy it when you ask if their paint choice was inspired by the cinematic master pieces of Michael Bay
I wanted to green to compliment my DVO shock but apparently it’s team riders only.
They did a few bits and pieces over the years in team green. I have some X2 brakes in the black/team green and a couple of sets of ancient hubs and the QRs that go with them as well.
Is there anyone offering re-anodising services?
There are some, make sure you use someone who knows what they are doing, or nothing will go back together properly again
Because it looks even worse than purple anodised bits???
I think the upside of Purple is it almost always clashes. With almost any anodized bit the choice comes down to one of the following:
Black - dull boring and you may as well have just had it painted.
Any other colour - never colour matches what you think it will as it's a completely different finish. It only ever works visually on an otherwise completely monochrome build where ever things white/black/ other solid color/bare metal
Purple - at least it was a conscious decision to pick a contrasting/clashing/complimentary colour.
What is it with Orange ? I bought a 2nd hand Soul smattered with Orange hope bits, presumably because it nearly matches the orange frame logo, and yet doesn’t match so just looks bad
I tend to get compliments on my blue/orange combo BUT....
The orange doesn't match the Fox orange - but the Fox orange ALMOST matches the Specialized decals. The yellow spring completely clashes and the orange Superstar pedals will have to go at some point as they don't match the orange Hope stuff. Looks better than when it was all black - in my eyes anyway
