I have rock shox revelations forks on my nukeproof mega which is 5 years old. The problem I have is they seem to suck down and I lose about 20mm of travel. I've had them serviced and they work well for a few rides and then I get the same problem and have 10% sag at rest. Its annoying and I go get the forks dismantled and serviced and all is well but it happens again. I had the forks serviced a few weeks ago and after yesterdays ride I'm noticing that its happening again. I can't afford to keep getting the forks serviced but also can't afford a new set either. Any suggestions?
Air leaking to the wrong side of the piston increasing the negative air pressure
What sort of service have you had done?
I'd get a quote from jtech and/or tf tuned and explain the issue. TF sorted a similar issue I had with a twin air rev a few years back , despite the fact they were full of Welsh grit 😉
Yeah, sounds like a loss of positive air. Assuming they're dual air, try topping up the positive chamber to see if you get your travel back.
Sounds like the pressure balancing valve is blocked with grease (its a tiny indentation on the inside of the lower leg) somebody will be along shortly to explain better, but they may have been rebuilt with too much or the wrong grease.
@dropoff that was my 1st thought but as mine are newer 35mm, I wasn't sure if this would be the case with the older 32mm? I found after I'd been too enthusiastic with the grease, you just have to compress the forks to almost the top of their travel and the pressure would clear the port, & equalise the pressure, though I had to remove a load of air so I could compress the forks to the correct level easily.
Scratch in the air spring shaft. Had this on my Rebas. Basically the scratch allowed air to leak between positive and negative air chambers. Answer was to replace that and all has been fine since. You could hardly see it with the naked eye but TF found it and resolved it.
I had this problem and letting the air out of the + and - chambers and re-inflating would remedy the problem. Note that the - valve is under the bottom nut on the air side but isn't documented in the manual.
At the weekend I had the air spring swapped to a Debonair after doing a bit of research and reading this - https://enduro-mtb.com/en/lyrik-pike-yari-revelation-debonair-upgrade-2020/ but I've not been out yet and only time will tell whether the forks retain their travel.
It's not an expensive fix/upgrade but make sure you chuck your fork serial number into trailhead.rockshox.com first to check compatibility. Mine are 2018 Revelations A1 35mm 120mm travel. Changing the air spring also gives you the chance to change the amount of travel in your forks.
EDIT - I see it's not you that has 35mm Revs and your forks are 5 years old so likely ignore me.
