In the rest of the world it seems to be just trainer but we seem to call it the turbo.. or turbo trainer.. curious if someone knows the reason.
Coz we iz faster innit?
Turbo is better than no turbo OBVS. 8)
There's no wind resistance or uneven surface or obstacles to fight against, so you are faster like having a turbo, innit? :S
Turbo=turbine. As most turbo trainers are derived from a 'turbine' resistance mechanism, you get 'turbo trainer'.
And anyone will tell you, turbos are just cooler.
because historically they used a turbine to provide wind resistance?
Bigger question is why is it often a pair of forks? Surely it is a fork, which could be described as being made of a pair of legs?
A lefty is a fork so forks makes perfect sense.
A Lefty isn't a fork. Its a front suspension unit maybe but with only one "leg" it can't be a fork.
A turbo is still referred to as rollers (rulli) here in Italy for some reason
