Having a very pleasant ride last night along a narrow single-track across a moor when I encountered a large number of cows completely blocking the path. They wouldn't shift and as there were mothers with calves I thought discretion was the better part of valour and made a pushed detour round them.
So why do they stand on the track? It's very narrow and the vegetation seems exactly the same as the empty square miles on either side.
