Just wondering who's running a 1x cx setup on their bike?

Currently in the process of building up a46/36 cx bike for races and commuting...

But have seen a few 1x setups that look awesome, just wondering practicalities off such a setup compared to proposed 46/36 one... Given want to use for commuting not just cx.

Thanks chaps

I run my with a 1x10 39t upfront with 11-28. It's fine for most commuting and general riding - now and again I struggle with the gearing where off the saddle grinding is required on the really steep long climbs.

I run with 1x8 (yes 8 speed) with a 38t usually and 11-28t for road duties.
If i know a bad ass CX event is coming up i will pop a 11-30t on there. the cassetes are like £10 each
i dont feel undergeared on the road, only maybe on long decents which there arnt really many round here

Yeah, I've got one set up 38x11-28 and one 40x11-32

38T is Absolute Black ring with short cage shimano 11sp mech/cassette
40T is RaceFace with 10sp shimano cassette and 9sp Short XT mech

Both work beautifully, not dropped a chain yet in 18months of running 1x10/11.
Even in uber-shit-fest muddy races.

I'm running 36/46 with 11-28 & I'm not a huge fan, ideally would swap to 42 or 44 to make it less of a step & as the mud increases the 46 becomes more obsolete.
Single ring would be great in a 38 IMO, so that's going to be my next major change when I can find a chainring I'm happy with.

I've been thinking just the same, ditch the triple for a single. What are you running? Ideally I'd want a fat thin and clutch mech but I'm still 9 speed shimano, what are the pull ratios on road levers? Same as MTB? Or is a clutch mech necessary? Sounds like some of you have single rings with no clutch or fat thin.

I'm running full sram cx1 with a wolftooth 38T. Love it for my riding. Simple, smooth and quiet.

I've been running 1x10 for 3 years now (9sp xt mech).I use a bash guard made out of a 42t ring with the teeth ground off, a 'dog fang' (st drop stop) and have increased the rear mech cage tension by drilling an extra hole for the spring.
I think I've dropped the chain twice and it remounts by pedalling.
That said I've just ordered a hope thick/thin because....well just because.

Why just stop there go the whole hog 1x1, no issues when it's muddy with rear mechs getting ripped off, and just keeps on chugging along. Running 33/17 this year and so far it's been about spot on. No expensive shifters in the levers to break when you have the inevitable tumble.
