Just got back from a couple of hours with Mrs Strato

No snow here, but a lovely sunny morning. A bit mucky underwheel, but very nice.

Freezing rain on top of the snow here. Walking, driving or cycling is a joke. Seen so many people nearly wipe themselves out and then get stuck outside my house it's just not funny. I would move my car if I thought I could! Going out on treader shortly though. Traditional innit!

I have not long got back from a quick 1.5 hour blast around my local, after I managed to slice my index finger quite badly on the disc rotor... 🙁

Was out for a quick 15km ride earlier. The snow isn't too deep here, but still great fun!

Yep, had a a couple of hours out, the look of bewilderment on people's faces when encountering a girl on a mountain bike in the snow made it well worth it !! 😀

Cycling along today, along the promenade, and there was a scream behind me, an elderley lady, fell backwards on sheet ice,and cracked her head, massive lump, she was with 2 other people, and luckily her husband was stil at home and came to pick her up in the car.
They didnt have a mobile,i did,so rang the husband.

Lesson learnt always carry a mobile.

Got back an hour or so; only out for an hour and a bit - several km... was hard work in several inches of snow that's starting to turn a tad slushy!

crazy icy today- did 2 hours

Feel much better now thanks to a change in diet and some new supplements - no cold extremitys anymore (not something ive been bothered with till the last 2 months) and more energy

got fed up of riding on glass in the end though.

Did a short, local loop on the way into work this morning - R8 icy. Wonder how bad it'll be on the way home @ 20.00?

Took the dog for a walk and realised that an ice rink covered in a film of water is not the place for pedestrians (2 or 4 legged), cars or cyclists. Just mental. It's gonna freeze again tonight so I'll give it a go then but today was never gonna happen.

I went for a 13 mile ride arond the lanes with my mum (she's 63 so no jokes about poor effort please) down here in Devon. Glorious day out, and didnt see a soul. The majority missed out on a great day to be outside I reckon.

Blue skies around Salisbury, lovely day out although only managed about 20 miles. No real snow, few bits of interesting ice to be had.

Mind you the cognac and mince pies were a welcome post ride nibble 😀

Not a bit of snow or ice here on the Wirral (as usual we don't get it) didn't manage to get a ride in either as there is just too much to do @ home.

had an early morning single speed and sections that are usually gravel and rideable all year were 1/2" thik sheet ice, funny as hell but it made for some intersting hill climbing antics... power down on a frozen grassy bank/bermy bit, mince across ice vaguely aiming for anything with traction (leaves, tree roots, dead badger) as soon as the rear wheel doesn't spin out, sprint and aim for next bit of traction. Frozen horse poo is very grippy!

We did a Boxing Day ride to Totnes and back. Almost all the ice had melted, the ground had thawed and it's all gone back to mud 🙁

One of our intrepid party suffered an 'overdone it a bit yesterday' Xmas relapse halfway round and had to call his domestic taxi to fetch him home 😉

Yesterday was terrible on the minor roads that link the tracks up, sheets of thick ice meant it was bloody treacherous in places. I had a few spills and I'm feeling the effects today, pretty hard going too on the single speed. When the snow first came down a few days before Christmas it was great though! Here's a pic from that ride.

just got back from a 14.5 miler, out for about an hour and a half. Ground in the woods pretty much frozen solid making it much easier than Saturdays mud slog. Wish I'd taken the camera, was bright, sunny and frosty white everywhere.

Tried to do Holcombe Hill on Boxing Day, pretty much pushed to the top as lacking skill to use the minimal grip from the deep slushy stuff...
[img] [/img]
So stuck road tyres on & circumnavigated the moor instead..

Now have two very large bruises on my hips, nearly 4 hours to cover 20 miles, don't know why I bothered 🙄

had a good but exhausting ride out today, melted snow + clay = sticky goop

my mate Si had a comedy over-the-bars moment after ploughing into a boggy stream

sadly couldn't get the camera out in time to capture his summersault and faceplant, but got one of the bike:

went out quite early this am - rode over to the Merida Brass Monkeys at Ash, watched and encouraged a bit, then carried on around a further loop.

It was great first up - frosty fast trails evn over the more mushy bits. Once the sun set to work going got a fair bit harder which just made me realise how much harder mud is than hardpack of any sort.

26.5 miles in about 3.25 hours, but was out for 4. Lovely.

Was out on Dartmoor earlier, bright at Burrator, freezing fog and very limited visibility at Princetown. Trails mushy and partially thawed. No pics.

Went up Swaledale today, was hoping to do Booze and Crackpot but only managed to do Booze. Really good day out and the start of many more adventures in the Dales methinks, although snow was up to our knees in places so may wait until its gone! Sorry no pics

I managed once around Evanton Wood, but it was hard work. I was pushing up hills I always ride, but only had one off! It was minus 8 and very hard and crusty snow. Momentum was very hard to come by.

Out in Devon for three hours this morning, nice sky, very clear, bloody cold, very sticky - the gloop made everywhere like riding uphill! Bike muddiest/dirtiest for months. But great to be out..

Now then Wayne, you got a bit beaten up the other day then? I know the feeling. We set off from Binbrook on Sunday, three and a half hours for 26 miles. The icy bits were not fun. Supposed to be more snow on the way and we're off for a ride from Loughborough tomorrow...

Maybe see you out there soon?
🙂

Went out yesterday morning after dropping Mrs Ononeorange in Rickmansworth (clever last-minute bike in back of car manoeuvre) then along canal to Denham and up over Shire Lane to Chenies and along the ridge back home. Wonderful singlespeed ride - didn't see a soul and the mud was still frozen. Perfect. Well, would have been perfect if my front pads hadn't worn through completely and if I'd remembered my gloves!
