And that are you riding?
We'll be on a tandem wearing corduroy and argyle.
i`ll be riding your ex 😉
I didn't get enough attention last year, so this year I'm riding a singlespeed 29er.
If you see a big fat beardy bloke on a green Kona wearing Vegan Cyclists kit, say hello.
Pegasus with wacky bars, unless i oversleep, then it'll be F1 and a local pootle later
Dammit, how did I miss this thread? I did a search and everything!
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/honk-if-youre-honcing
Cheesy.
I hope you're treating her as roughly as she deserves.
🙄 @ clubber. 😉
Another Pegasus here, weird bars, Lefty, singlespeed, in a "look at me" kind of way. I'll be the one spinning like a freak on the roads due to my 32:19 gearing.
I'm riding the CHONC, cheeky hell of the north Cotswolds on my Indy Fab Ego Chariot, possible wearing tweed as the cords will be worn at the BONC party on Sat night!
so it's niche or nothing then? i might not come if the attention is spread that thinly
possible wearing tweed as the cords will be worn at the BONC party on Sat night!
You scared you might shat the cord and it'll be a bit crusty for the ride then.
Pegasuses (Pegasii?) are clearly becoming about as niche as a BMW 3-series. You bunch of chavs 😉
(I'll be the vision of purple...)
I hope you're treating her as roughly as she deserves.
she`s a lady not a strumpet
She was a right easy ride for me.
I had her a couple of times while neither of you were looking... 8)
Pegasuses (Pegasii?) are clearly becoming about as niche as a BMW 3-series. You bunch of chavs
ah but mine has an "extra weld" on it, just to be different like.
that's like adding a 'V8' sticker to a V4 or an extra big wing... Just makes you even more of a chav.
oh dear I see what you mean. I've Max Powered my Pegasus. Classy.
Does she trombone Cheesy?
Watch out though, it's "bike" day at prescott, first time it's been allowed and timed, ao there'll be loads of machines on the roads in the area
I'm coming. Will be at the back with Peteimprezza on my hybrid enjoying the bimble
ME!
I'll be on a Specialized full bouncer with full face helment and all-the-pads, baggies and a backpack the size of a small planet. Maybe.
Actually, if it's warm I might antagonise the community by not wearing a helmet and by stretching unseemly lycra over my hairy arse and legs.
Ben
I reckon you'd traumatise everyone a lot more by not putting any shorts on.. 😉
me too!
2 x blokes on disc'y cxers - hoping to get near 5 hours this year - how much cake can you eat in 30 seconds anyway?
....hmmm, it's not everyday someone winks at me whilst suggesting I take my shorts off. Maybe halfway round behind a suitable bush then clubber?
I'll also be stopping every 500 yards to fix my mech, or put something in my backpack, or to lower my saddle, or raise my saddle, or exclaim at the top of my voice how radical I've just been, or to put my bike in the right gear or..or...or etc. Just so that those who cycle on the trails at Cannock on a Sunday will feel at home. 🙂
Ben
Ben I'm liking your moves 😀
..but happy for you to keep your shorts on 😮
Maybe halfway round behind a suitable bush then clubber?
You'll have to wait for me to catch up... 🙁
I'm riding the CHONC with wok king and a master tromboner, cheeky hell of the north Cotswolds on my IndyFabtipropersizedwheelswithonelegEgoChariot, possible wearing a bad hangover picked up at the BONC party on Sat night!
POSTED 2 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST
Can't decide between my 160 or 140mm travel bikes. Any clues what the best bike to ride is please?
Our tandems got a 150mm fork on it.
Might drop the spacers out though and run it at 170mm as i hear it's going to be gnarlcore to the power of sik.
Pampassgrass - depends how much of a try hard you are... HTH
HONC doesn't need suspension, there might be a few bumpy fields though
After a frantic effort to get new pedals today after one fell apart last night, I'm on. Looks like a bluebird day like 2007 when there were comedy tan lines a-plenty by the end of the day. That climb up from Laverton at 80km is going to be fun in the early afternoon sun 🙁
Hope they have done some pothole filling. 🙄
Bet it took them ages to get your skin off the tarmac.
Rode it SS last two years. 32/15 last year, no problems, but gonna go for gears this year
Rode it with gears last year,no problems...So will be doing that again this year....
Stu, it was probably the most technical section on the course. Red 30mph limit shell grip trials section 😀
Hhmm, gears or ss?
May take the 160 then with 3x10. Are the DH's ok or will I need leg armour?
Are they really running the course anti clockwise? How bizarre, all the good descents are climbs and no descent descents! Glad I'm doing the CHONC.
May take the 160 then with 3x10. Are the DH's ok or will I need leg armour?
pampassgrass , leg armour is a must some of the cotswold oeuf de chien could shatter a unprotected shin .
it has to be the red specialised single speed again non niche/ non posh/ non boutiqe/ but just gets on with the buisness/ till the rider claps out that is. 🙂 🙂
You'll need it tomorrow night MrYeti as the flintstone rollers are attending the BONC.
have a jolly time folks, the weather looks lovely 😀
Are you not joining us Tazzy?
Should be a really good day on Sunday, until the 80k mark anyway.
The Soul would be my bike of choice, but I dinked the front wheel enough to crack the rim earlier this week and not had chance to get another and rebuild it.
You can all point and laugh at me being completely over biked on a blue 5. 😆
Are the flintstones, run what ya brung or will there be a rat IF with flats we can all use? You know, like piss your self trousers at school. Look very uncool but do the job.
I will be riding my santa cruz v10 carbon as its the only xc bike I have.
not using my dh bike on a all dayer.
As its my 1st time how many of the downhills will be equivilant of a trail centre black run as i will probably have to walk a few of these without the full facer and pads for protection ?
thanks Don
Won't be able to use flats as they're too bumpy. There may be a rat if or a rat Mav available as gears are needed!
Won't be able to use flats as they're too bumpy
And DH courses aren't 😆
Challenge on to ride them in flip flops then.
After you mate!
5 10 stealth rubber flip flops.
HE HE HE HE
Full 140mm trail tandem no cord or argyle as it will be all sweaty after the party hopefully
And i only have a limited supply of cord 😀
I may be packing a full size trombone in my trail pack !
tollah you know the route has changed a fair amount since last year?
I'll be there but nowhere near you niche lot by the sounds of it.
Yeah seen the HONC route but we're riding the CHONC, that's a niche version of the HONC.
Hugor is HONCing as his name came up on the waiting list after entries had closed.
Very happy.
2 weeks to go.
I'll be mainly riding the On One SS..........as always..
First time for me.
Long course 100k 1600m elevation gain
Short course 50k 900m elevation gain
yikes!!
holy thread resurrection! Oh well, I'll be there on the singlespeed niche machine again this year, though I suspect it won't be quite as dry as last year! Doing Rob Lee's 1000 miles in April challenge so adding a few (50) by riding there & back from home too, which is going to be a bit tedious on a spinny SS.
Honc is ace, if only for the friendly atmosphere and the plethora of nice (often unusual) bikes on display.
Is the route out yet?
I received an email with the gpx files yesterday.
First time for me as well. As it starts from the castle grounds from what i gather, i can only assume it goes right and straight up the hill? As that looks like a nightmare of a climb (2 x black arrows?!) to start from cold! 😯
i can only assume it goes right and straight up the hill?
Well winchcombe is at the bottom of the scarp and guiting at the top, its never going to be pleasant 🙂
Gulp! Well if you see someone pushing a Orange Inbred 29er halfway up the hill at the start that will be me 😕
Looks like a 200m climb straight away. Better bring some spare links. I have a habit of breaking chains in such situations.

I'm driving up from London with the family, Mrs McBoo is going to take the kids to the castle while I ride around on my no-mates lonesome.
Thought I was going to be doing it on my 100mm carbon racey full suss thingey but sounds like some of you do it on crossers? Would love to do it on CX if trails allow. Pray tell fellas.
Would love to do it on CX if trails allow
I am sure i remember someone doing it on a dursley-pederson....
Cross bike should be fine, mostly farm tracks/edge fields/tarmac where a cross bike makes up more time than it'll loose on other sections.
Any links to the gpx? Or alternatively would some kind soul send it to me as I have not received one?
sparkbach at gmail dot com
was meant to be but that crap bit called "life" has got in the way. If anyone wants my entry drop me an email
I'm not riding this year 🙁
CX bike by preference for me - makes the road bits fast and the offroad bits fun.
It's perfect for a CX bike.
It's also perfect for a mid-90's Marin based, purple-rigid-forked, fat(ish) tyred, flat barred and bar ended, v-braked, 1*9er frankenbike. Which is lucky 🙂
I'll be pootling the 50k with the little lady.
Oh and the first climb is, er, 'sustained' 🙂
I'm there with the Godiva lot on the Niner one9 with the upside down Marys on (thanks for the tip Sheldon, rides much better) Fancy this CHONC too 8)
I'm in, but I don't think I can be arsed.
Thats decided then. I'm going to be the unapproachably-handsome brunete on a red Genesis Vapour CX bike. Do holler hello, I havent met any of you guys.
Anyone got the GPX? Havent recieved it and not on the website. Are there plenty of feed stations? Would love to do it without a camelbak but only have one bottle cage.
Check your SPAM/Junk filter, my mail with the final details and GPXs had been caught by it (on gmail).
One feed station, halfway round. Loads of cake and bananas (and water, maybe sports drinks, can't remember) available.
what's your email mcboo and i'll send you the link with the GPX?
I'm gonna be there on my Scandal 29er, raw frame with gold Hope bits, throw food at me if you pass me..
Looking forward to it. If there's not too much more rain between now and then it should be lovely!

e's the route.
I have not received the email with the map, could someone send it me? Ianc61 at gmail.com cheers
If there's not too much more rain between now and then it should be lovely!
Er, yeah, about that...
