Been asked to have a go at Rollapaluza at the end of the month in bristol. Heard it's 500 metres of balls out pedalling against an opponent on a fixed bike. I had a go on a watt bike a while ago at the track championships and that was fun taking on a couple of roadies.

Anyone here had a go?

I think it may be your work. It's an atmosphere shot anyway, rather than one of me dead on arrival!

I did a 24.3 I think at the Smithfield Nocterne this year. I was pretty dissapointed with that but blamed wearing overly restrictive jeans!

Is it mandatory to roll no my jeans and wear a bright cycle cap?

23.53? Wow! .. I did 17secs for 250m on my first go at a velodrome

it's mandatory to have fun. the first time i did it i went in with a limp from a bivvy ride the night before - just went along for a look - within 10 minutes i had registered!

drinking beer helps; but not just before the ride, holding down beer does not help one spin hard!

We've got one tonight in Plymouth actually! Is it more a case of spinning or can you go big gears?!

seems the gearing is 44x14

Current Rollapaluza competition gear is 44×14 (84.9?) Rollapaluza Records are based on this gear only.

spin your nuts off! nothing to do with strength, it's all about whether you can spin at well over 200rpm for 20+ seconds 😯

"they recommend getting drunk as drunk people seem to perform better" not sure my SSWC (AVIEMORE 08?) attempt bears that out!

Be ready to feel like throwing up, also it's not always who you think will be quick so it's worth while everyone having a go. There was a larger gent at ssuk 09 who had an amazing spin, just lost out in the final I think. Excellent fun.

Dunno.. Guy from VC Bristol told me about it last night. maybe it's their own local type competition?

Holy thread ressurrection!

Trail Snail Racing / Yogi Cycling muscleman Neil Vingoe ('Vings' on here when he posts once in a blue moon) gurned his way to victory in Plymouth the other day.
[img] [/img]

By his own admission Neil is not the fastest rider even on his local weekly club rides let alone xc racing, but somehow he excels at roller racing on his first ever try. He won over quite a few local heroes who are well faster than him in xc and cx, and posted the fastest time each round and overall for the night. How does that work?

I'm off to practice my gurns now. 😀

It's definitely all about spinning fast, does not equate to general riding ability (unless you are a trackie). I seem to recall 21 something at SSWC in Aviemore. Ollie Pepper won it in under 20.

I missed registration of it at SSUK09, although perhaps it would've been fairer to everyone else present if he'd missed registration too...

Looks like pure torture but at the same time strangely fun.

Yep, legend, although too many roadie tendencies for my liking at the moment - haven't seen him on a MTB for months. Possibly because I bought one of his MTBs

I seem to recall the seatpost on that Rollapaluza bike wasn't really dealing with Andy's weight too well...
