Looking for a new road bike frame a bit like I had back in the day to build up, either off the peg or custom made, can't quite stretch to a Colnago Master X Light - so who out there still produces skinnier tube classic flat top tube geometry (ie not sloping) steel frames? Preferably with 68mm threaded BB, for 700c wheels upto 28c tyres, rim brakes. What/who's worth looking at? Cheers
absolutely anyone you go and ask to make you one even the new age wanna be's could probably rustle one up if they weren't too busy being all niche and artis anal
is bob jackson still going in leeds
enigma?
Bob Jackson, Brian rourke, Mercian would be a start
Woodrups in Leeds.
Surly Pacer? Might not have premium status, but has proper racy geometry and on its day mine was pretty much as fast as my CAAD9.
Ritchey?
Ummed and arred about a Ritchey Logic Road frame off the shelf but in the end for a bit more have gone to Rourke to get just what I want. See how long it takes now, hope it's the right decision...Now to flog a load of old stuff to pay for it.
Update - got the traditional looking Rourke frame now, built with Dura Ace 9000 / Ritchey WCS, rides lovely it does. 853 Pro Team tubing, Columbus forks. Weighs bang on 8kg built.
Nice 🙂
Lovely
That was quick, I had to wait 7 months for my Rourke frame
That Rourke is nice, v nice. That's also light as I'd looked at the 953 Rourke before my back got broken.
I have a Frank Herety SLX with 7400 Dura Ace that's about 9kg - had it built in about 1990.
Proper bike, that. 🙂
That's lovely, and much faster than I would have expected.
That's really nice. Can't really top the looks of rim brakes and a trad headtube with a level TT.
That crankset is a thing of beauty..so much nicer than the latest version
Lovely. I was planning something a lot less traditional. TCR compact steel frame with fixed wheel dropouts. From Rouke of course.
I’d swap the bottle cages for a pair of Elite ciussi wire ones in black to match the frame, and add a -17 degree stem to follow the TT if I’m being picky.

If your down South speak to Ashley at Malcolm Custom Bicycles.
A review of one of his bike can be read right here.
Tommassini, Chesini and Casati.
Weighs bang on 8kg built.
That's seriously light for 853, "heavy" single sided SPD pedals (383g) and traditional style 32 spoke wheels.

Agreed, or even the Ciussi Stainless ones
Looks really nice, reminds me of my Scapin Spirit 8 - forks look good too, will take a look as I need to replace mine. Which model are they?
John_l Forks are Columbus Minimals, very light and in keeping with skinny tube steel frame.
Wheels are 32h rear 28h front Dura Ace on Ryde Pulse Sprint rims, again pretty light for traditional looking wheels.
Might well change the bottle cages....I wonder if Ritchey do 17 degree stems, everything else is Ritchey WCS so would like to keep the same. Cheers
Could you not get a stem made from some 853? Wouldn't be light but would look good.
There's this bloke in Queensland who makes the nicest frames I've ever seen.
Here's one of his stems

Interesting:
1 1/8" HT (I think)
Finally someone with a bar set up like mine 🙂
They do.

And yes the stainless steel would match the DA nicely. They are superb cages too.
