Me. Can I have my tough guy badge now please?
What for there's no wind or rain?
Not a chance.. Already gusting 50mph+ in west wales
Beautiful clear skies this morning. Bit chilly though.
I've got today off 🙂
I'm heading out in a bit, feeling a bit hesitant though- winds gusting at 50mph expected for the ride back...
*here in London
Driving a high roof transit to work was entertaining 🙂
It's hitting 60mph on the tops around here. When the offices take their flags down, you know riding is probably off the cards.
Good day for a run rather than a ride....
Yep, was on the Brompton with the big bag on the front. Was like riding into a brick wall. At one set of lights, I swear I would go backwards if I wasn't hanging on the brakes
Waiting to put my bike on the train at Bristol I was holding the top tube and the wheels were not on the floor.
Me..though it's only a 90 second commute.
Today took about 2 minutes.
well'ard I am..
DrP
We had 40+ and 58 gusts through the night.
Current actuals are still 34 with 56 gusts 😯
My lads aren't going outside today thats for sure!
I ended up shouting at the wind, telling it to give me a break. Didnt work, will try again on way home and update on progress.
I rode in (Edinburgh), one of the least unpleasant commutes of the new year. Wet roads but no wind, rain or ice.
Yesterday morning was grim though.
Yup, nowhere near as bad as yesterday's ride.
I did.
Blue skies when I left home. Blue skies when I walked into work. Got soaked in the middle.
I walked in the other Friday when it was really windy, but it's not too bad here this morning.
I did. Bit chilly, bit breezy, but plenty of sunshine and blue skies from west to central London.
Swinley Forest on Saturday morning was a damp, muddy, sandy, grindy windfest though.
Gave it a miss today. Didn't fancy riding home along the Embankment into an 90 kph headwind later on.
Holiday down here so we went for a spin.

Stopped to eat blackberries.
Just got back from walking the dog on the Quantocks, horizontal stinging rain.
Turns out not much fun [s]staggering[/s] running either.....
Rode in today - as always.
Almost blew me to a standstill at one point. Quite wet too. 😡
Uphill headwind made me about as near to being stopped as possible at one point. Was raining half the way and my main rear light lead pulled out and I didn't notice.
Tailwind on the way home
I've ridden in for the last two days and will be riding in again later today. Routes that are usually sheltered but also climbs have become headwind battles. 30mph road descents have seen several downshifts just to keep moving forward. I have now began to swear and shout at the wind, like Rab C Nesbitt, and yes it doesn't stop the wind but makes you feel better. I am bloody knackered though. I consider these challenges to be more mental training than physical. Don't get that in a gym.
Was quite pleasant for my 20km run into work this morning 🙂
A bit breezy and muddy but not too cold or damp.
I'm glad the rain/hail which was hammering the bedroom window last night had abated though, otherwise it may have been car weather 😮
Cheers, Rich
Thought about it but knee giving me some jip so, will put it off until tomorrow.
Hats off to one and all who did.
Only 6km but is was fuppin' ridiculous. Speeding up the hills with a tail wind one second, the next grinding along at a snail's pace.
People actually ride on the roads with 60mph winds?
No bike commute now, so no, probably would have at my old job, but most of the route was traffic free, so low risk if you did get dumped off the bike.
Not too bad on the way to work in Sheffield which probably means the wind was mostly behind.
Some hail stones pinged the helmet liner/ear cover and left a ringing sound for a few pedal strokes!
Had to pedal down hill otherwise I'd have ground to a halt. Rain was fun, but warmer than yesterday's ride.
Nicest day up here for a long time with blue skies and no wind. Although it was a bit slippy in places, so a bit of care was needed.
It looked quite scary through the window this morning - with flying wheelie bins...
But the ride itself was surprisingly pleasant!
Torbay, via the seafront.
Managed to ride in against the headwind from hell.
Decided against the bike, so ran instead. I sweat so much I don't really notice the rain anyway !
My ride in was nothing out of the ordinary for this year so far in Sheffield. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.... 😕
bit windy down in Devon but I've ridden in worse...
10 miles from North to Central London today. Was a bit windy but wasn't too bad at all. Rain was forecast but it was dry, woo hoo!
15 miles riding into London on the fixed. Misery.
Tonight is going to be even worse - dreading Tower Bridge, it'll be lethal...
Visits today are going to be 'fun', I imagine...
(especially with the cargo bike and foot protecting wheel skirts..)
DrP
Running yesterday after a family walk and a late night so felt fully justified deciding to take the train today, absolutely nothing to do with the wind n rain hammering on bedroom window at 6:30am, honest.
Do feel like I've wussed out tho 🙁
Rode in, first day on the new commuter, not much wind for a change in Ayrshire/Glasgow but it was absolutely pishing it down. Roads were like rivers. First commute on discs and it was certainly a good day for it - I can't usually stop when it's that wet so it was nice to have the stopping option.
No it wasn't, discs are no better, calipers are fine. You're imagining it.
absolutely nothing to do with the wind n rain hammering on bedroom window at 6:30am, honest
Wind and lashing rain woke me up all through the night, leaving me lying awake to worry about going out in it.. and I still did it, 6.30am, in the dark... double tough guy 😆
Bloke I work with rode in, I'm looking at some healthy gravel rash on his forearm.. 😐
Stay safe, the ride home might just be a little better as it rolls over the top of us.
Nah I commute on the bike to enjoy it, not to prove a point. For that reason I'm out.
Yup! Nicest commute for a while. Hasn't got this far north yet.
Yep.That was mad. Especially with a nebuliser in the front basket and hugh Drs bag on the rear....
LOLZ et al...
DrP
Pulled on the big boy pants and braved it this morning. Was horrible.
I geniunely thing the only type of wind I ever ride in is a head wind. I could turn round and it would still be a head wind!
I took the cross bike out on the Quantocks, there were 4 or 5 downhiller types pushing their bikes back up the hill at Triscombe, they're a hardy bunch.
The sun almost came out a few times.
56mph headwind according to my Anemometer...but it wasn't constant, so was quite manageable.
Going in (heading southwest) was hard work. Coming back (going north east) was like riding a motorbike!!
"Tonight is going to be even worse - dreading Tower Bridge, it'll be lethal..."
Went over London Bridge about an hour ago, surprisingly ok
Wind and lashing rain woke me up all through the night, leaving me lying awake to worry about going out in it.. and I still did it, 6.30am, in the dark... double tough guy
How far did you have to go, molgrips? Were you off to B'ham this morning?
Cheers Shermer, good to know.
Round the Walkie talkie building its biblical at the moment. Properly had my feet blown out from under me earlier when I went to grab some lunch.
Last time it was particularly windy I rode in along the towpath to avoid any unfortunate results from gusts.
I too end up shouting at the wind. It's character building, and I sort of do enjoy it. The ride home is always good fun too - 30mph in places along the flat last time, which isn't bad on the commuter/towpath. Speed was limited by common sense not legs!
Me. Wasn't too bad, Certainly no worse than Saturday's jaunt on the tandem. Hadn;t realised the time, it's time to go home now
I take it all back. Heading west from central London was bloody hard work.
Hats off to anyone who rode today. Pretty Vile out there. (Manchester)
How far did you have to go, molgrips? Were you off to B'ham
Yeah only down the station, bout 5 miles. Huge heavy rucksack though.
Planing to go out tonight too but it's not so bad now.
Was hard work this morning after Gorrick yesterday, but not windy enough to worry about getting blown over. Must have missed the worst gusts until I got home and tried to carry bike down the steps.
Torrential rain and a tailwind on the way home. I didn't think they existed!
double tough guy status rescinded.Yeah only down the station, bout 5 miles.
😉
After yesterday in the Peak district and my monumental wob ! trying to ride up Mam tor with a headwind strong enough to stop a charging bull and on ground more akin to custard I decided to drive in ,but I dropped my little girl off at school so forgiveness ???
The biggest problem was the morning high tide, combined with the storm surge, flooding my route in. The ride home was actually quite nice.
I went to the pub on the bike last night and got soaked, then rode in today and got soaked and wind in all directions. type 2 fun.Pretty Vile out there. (Manchester)
really hoping for a dry morning run to take the kids on the cargo bike .... 😐
I rode in, 20 miles cannock chase to brum, cross/head wind both directions (probably mostly cross) it was horrible. It's been worse though this year, but I didn't enjoy it. Hit 1000 miles for the year though so that was nice.
wind rain and more - had worse weather in West yorks this year. Get sick of the miserable rain though.............
Went for a 2h run early doors, was pretty miserable TBH. Cold, rainy, windy. Nothing out of the ordinary but not much fun.
Just back from a 90 min spin, and actually it was rather pleasant. Headwind on the way out but nothing too bad, and got gently blown home.
Perth is a balmy 42 degrees today so dear god no, I did not ride in!
Couple of hilarious moments on yesterdays ride home
- a woman ranting and shouting out loud at the wind. I actually thought she was cycling with a bloke but when I rode up to him he was looking at her in wonderment too. The wind was so fierce she was struggling to clip her leg in somehow
- getting out the supermarket with some stuff to stick on the bike, and trying to attach it to the bike without getting blown over. The shop is in a very exposed and windy section near home - most people head down, screaming or laughing, and leaning into the wind
Was most amusing!
a woman ranting and shouting out loud at the wind
I've never done that, not even two hours into a shitty windy ride where everything's already gone wrong.. *cough*
