I think I subconsciously skip to the the 1st regular thread title without taking any notice of what's in the sticky section. I just noticed the one about Guisborough by chance and reckon that a normal thread about someone stringing barbed wire across a trail and catching someone in the face would have had more response. Obviously that kind of thread is stuck to the top as a headline/warning but is it "invisible" to people ?

Funny you should say that, as I don't take them in.

I think it's actually because they're highlighted that my eye scans naturally down below to the more live content, even though they are very much highlighted for a reason...

I think it's due to the 'Our Forum' sticky. It's been there so long that I reckon most folk start the thread scan below that point.

I don't notice them either. They seem to be counter-productive to me - stuff that changes position gets noticed, stuff that doesn't, doesn't.

Agreed.

If there was a way for stickies to look the same as normal posts, but always appear in the top quarter of the first screen, I bet the amount of views would go up.

I don't really see them either - missed the Jenn one multiple times

Ignored by me. Counterproductive IMO. Threads that get bumped to the top by being active will get read so I don't really think it helps.

Want to make a post invisible? Make it a sticky.

I only noticed said sticky as I looked at it after seeing this thread title!

I think if they had the star but not the grey background they'd be a lot more visible. As it is I think my brain just considers them part of the headings & filters them out most of the time.

I might sometimes notice if the lump of grey at the top of the threads has changed size.

Let's face it, a long of the people here don't actually read the threads they have clicked on.
