I've been slaving away at the typeface since 8am at 4:30 after a lot of the minor niggles that drive me crazy my work was done. Ten minutes later I was riding my singlespeed on road and 'gravel' through the rain and the gale.
And all the tension and anger just slipped away. If I didn't have cycling I would go crazy.
And on my return trip I picked up a 4 pack and a couple of steaks for dinner.
Smiley happy me.

I’ve said a few times before that riding a bike, geared or not, is my therapy and without it, I’m not sure where I’d be. Enjoy your beers!!

The novelty wears off when you do it everyday to work still quicker to cycle to work than drive and cheaper.

Who needs a new bike? Well, having bought a new road bike recently it's a lot nicer than the last one so that definitely helps.

I have returned to cycling and it’s the best thing I have done in a long time

I rode out on Sunday managed my route and got home and realised 4 hours had passed

I simply love it

I haven't had a car since 2014, I've spent 17 years with a bike as my primary transport. 😁

Never has with me. Leaving work by bike is the best way to leave work. I posted something 7 or 8 years ago about my first 3 years commuting by bike, and said:

"If I get the tube home, I don’t really feel like I’m home, on my own time, until I’m walking up the stairs to the flat, jangling my keys in my pocket. But on the bike, it’s as soon as I’m turning the pedals. 🙂"

same was true for another 3 years in London, and another 5 years on a bike - train - bike commute (including plenty of summertime extensions - getting off the train a couple of stops early and riding home over the hills)

Now I'm working from home, my "commute" is closing the laptop and hopping on the bike to get the kids from nursery in the wagon. Just that feeling of turning the pedals, effort and ease, leaning into the turns, the wind in your face. Wonderful.

'Need?' No. 'Want/fancy?' maybe, but I can't afford/justify the cost of a decent new bike at the moment really.
Plus, would it make riding any more enjoyable? Doubt it for me.

👍🏼Pretty much the point I was trying to make in my first post but totally failed to do.
My 3 favourite bikes have all been secondhand and rigid, 2 of them bought from here.

I NEED a new bike!
a new frame actually.
have a collection fo parts waiting for the right frame to turn up. (hightower, if you're asking, or ripmo, or offering 😉
which of course they aren't as there is a shortage of new bikes.

it's doing my nu tin and i'm stuck with walking or running my local trails, which start on my doorstep, just to add to the frustration!

GRRRR

Much the same here: for me the simpler the bike the easier it is to clear your mind. Not long after the first lockdown I went back to singlespeeding after a long break from it and it was like a tonic. Just less distraction on a ride: never thinking maybe you’d be better in a different gear, never having a minor noise to diagnose, never having to consider any sort of cleaning or maintenance, just push the pedals. And secondhand (or even just simply cheap) stuff adds to it: you’re not precious about it, you just ride it—I’ve always far rather had a tatty bike made of vanilla 4130 that has seen things, than any boutique one in fancy materials with a fancy finish. The best bike to clear your head is the bike that means “it’s not about the bike”.

Had a morning of various minor frustrations at work, hopped on the 'E-Dutch' bike to nip to the bakery at lunchtime, there and back in under 15 mins but did me the world of good, sun's out, first time in ages I haven't needed a hat under my lid or to wear gloves, birds singing etc.

Sorted me right out it did.

Bikes are ace.

Really hope this whole WFH goes long term so that we can ditch one of the cars and buy an E-Cargo bike.
