NFU Mutual just hiked my buiildings and contents renewal premium by 40% so I'm looking about. LV and Direct Line are coming out cheapest so far but Direct Line have limits that won't cover all our family bikes. (8 in all) They have suggested their partner Gator Bikesure Limited, who I've never heard of.
Anyone have experience of LV, Direct Line or Gator? And who else do you recommend for bike cover? Thanks
Hastings Direct currently on house. Pedal cover for one our last insurance wouldn't do on house policy, but is actually included on house now too.
Aon - underwritten by Aviva. Covers all our bikes for their total value, specified by us. On a home & contents policy which totals about £600 PA.
Don’t buy separate bike cover, it’s horrendously expensive.
Bikmo
Somewhere on this forum last year, someone recommended a Barclays Bank bike policy. I haven’t claimed against it but it was cheaper, by some way, from adding the bikes onto aviva home insurance policy.
Nationwide home insurance. New for old policy, bikes covered when at home up to £1000 by default, easy to add on away from home cover or named bikes over £1k. As it's Nationwide you get a decent discount if you have something else with them, bank account or mortgage or whatever.
No need for gold rated locks etc either, their only stipulation is that the bike has to be locked to something immovable or inside.
I made a claim once and had a good experience.
Bikmo, it’s about £280 a year for a few k or bikes
Barclays in the past. Halifax now. All bikes above £700 need to be specified.
Barclays were the cheapest by far for me. You can take out a standalone policy, doesn't have to come with home insurance.
Barclays as well as co-op - barclays covers all the bikes upto £5k each. Co-op contents had a limit of £1k, but that's gone up a little now.
Another one who's with Nationwide. As I'm in a rented flat the fact they don't stipulate things like a ground anchor is a real bonus as I can't fit one, they were also the cheapest of the people I tried too (being a customer of them already really helps). I hope to never have to use it but even if I do get done over I'd have to have paid 30 years of premiums or more to be worse off then if I self-insured. The likes of pedal cover were quoting me 2-3x the premium!
Barclays.
Cheap, £5k limit, no limits on number of bikes, and accidental damage cover.
We also use them for sports equipment.
Aviva, covered under the contents limit with no need to list separately. Requirements are that they're locked to something secure.
Barclays here too. About £50 for unlimited number of bikes up to £5k max per bike. Oddly they don’t cover bikes in the back of a car unless it’s hidden away completely in a locked boot. They are covered on a rack though as long as locked to the rack or car.
