Out on the Purbecks yesterday, opened a gate for a chap and his dog, got chatting and he turned out to be Seb Rogers (MBUK etc etc) dad

2 miles further on, stopped at the Square and Compass and who should be having a coffee but Rowland Riveron and family - asked me a load of questions about local riding!

You just never know who you are going to bump into

A couple of years ago I was riding with some mates in the Black Mountains, & bumped into Stoner from this site, who was out for a solitary overnight hike.

I was out up Macclefield forest on Saturday and met a guy called 'Don' who lives in Macclesfield. He was able to advise me on some other local riding. He minced out of the tech on charity lane and went down the cut path to the right.

No one really.

Saying that, I do occasionally see the odd group of MTB'ers, I assume from PeterboroughMBR, and maybe some of them are on here.

Met my mate Nick out on his Cotic X, we were going up Reeth High Moor but heading of on different routes from the top. It was great to meet a friend out in the hills.

I stopped at Waitrose in Swaffham, Norfolk whilst out on the road bike (free coffee!) and was chatting to Roger Lloyd-Pack (trigger from Only Fools and Horses) for ages, a week later it was announced he died.

Having a beer in pub down in Cornwall at the end of a ride and was chatting to Ronnie Wood too, he came across as a genuinely nice bloke.

Last year I bumped into Ian Stannard in full sky gear at the bottom of a climb in Essex. He stopped at the same time & opposite the road to me to don a rain jacket - as was I. A minutes exchange of pleasantries and he was off up the hill faster than I could sprint.

Very pleasant chap, even bigger chest in the flesh than the TV relates to you.

Munrobiker, I just spat out a mouthful of coffee,

I bumped into Janet Street Porter above Pately bridge, I even held the gate open for her and she still had a go at me !

Something about a speed limit ? And rights of way ?

Eric Newby (a good few years ago mind - The mention of the Square & Compass at Worth reminded me of that)

'Met' with the former england captain when he stepped into the road 2 feet in front of me going through Dore (Sheffield)

Emmeline Ragot and Ffion Griffiths.

Adam Hart-Davies

^^ bumped in to him at work (but then at work there's the possibility of bumping in to lots of people that may have been on telly)

You are a troll and I claim my £10. 😉

(On a serious note, whereabouts in Essex? I worked as a mechanic in a high-end road shop near Colchester many moons back)

I also saw Janet S-P in Nidderdale a few years ago. Gave her a hearty "Good Morning!". She muttered something under her breath and looked away. Arsehole.

Met Camilla a couple of times riding around Tetbury.

Me on a bike her on a horse accompanied by another rider.

Both times she smiled and said hello, I was pleasantly surprised.

Didn't realise she lived/holidayhomed in Nidderdale, but then I've encountered a fair few strange people up that valley. Will have to keep an eye out.

Chatted to, and smoked a J with Antony Kiedis (lead singer) from the Chilli Peppers at the top of a large hill in San Fransisco area (Mt Tamalpais)

Wasn't until i left him near the bottom of the descent at the beach that i twigged who he was. Shame as i would have asked if i could play drums in his band if i'd known.

A very fit looney he was too.

Steve Peat and Hans Rey at Dalby. Saw a load of blokes in full team kit zooming through Yorkshire a couple of weeks ago too, not sure what that was all about. Bastards stole most of the local Strava KOMs an' all, wassocks! 😉

Toots Hill, after the Toots Hill bumps past the pub (the Green Man?), he was going South in the direction of Epping, I was doing a N London/Chelmsford loop.

Froome & Porte just before this year's tour. Had a nice chat with them while we descended down a col in the Alps. Was pretty cool.

We spotted Loic Bruni and Sam Blenkinsop at the PPdS last year.

Excitedly set off after them on a descent and then found they'd stopped at the bottom of a muddy, rutted meadowy bit of trail - just in time to watch me careen down barely in control but somehow manage to keep the fishtailing bike upright.

Felt great to get a cheer from them guys, didn't stop to chat though.

Likewise, along with the MBR guys often about. Bumped into Rowan Sorrell at BPW, but then it's hard not to 😀

Probably seen a few other well known riders but then I don't really recognise faces or remember names that well.

No one actually famous outside biking world though I think.

Came across Gordon Ramsay in Whistler... but that was skiing, and he wasn't skiing. Just was in the town doing a video shoot (and his heavies got narky with me for trying to take a photo).

Rode past James DeGale the boxer in Epping Forest.

He was jogging the other way so no opportunity for chit-chat.

I try to time my MTB rides so I see absolutely noone, but I see quite a few past and present Basque pros out on the road, and there are a couple on our Sat am chaingang. Had a chat with Olano on a ride a couple of weeks ago, still incredibly quick, as is Beloki.

Last year, trying to hang onto Garate descending a very steep twisty mountain road, and watched him overcook a corner and end up in the bushes 😆

Oh aye, at the EWS it was just world champions everywhere, beating them off with a stick at some points. I couldn't get that fussed about all that til I bumped into Andrew Shandro and went all giddy schoolgirl 😆

I met Jill Gould in a bike shop on Robson St. in Vancouver. She was complaining that all the couriers were racing her because she was in full team kit and had lots of shiny bits on her bike, some made by an upstart UK company called Hope.

At the time she wasn't yet Jill Gould, and Tim was racing the hill climb (yes - climb) at Mammoth the coming weekend.

Lovely lass that appeared happy to shoot the breeze with the ex-pat shop owner and a young backpacker that idolised her boyfriend.

Ned Boulting and Chris Boardman filming one of their TDF segments on Wrynose as we were 'racing' up it. In the segment it is my friend being overtaken by Ned on an electric bike (chuckle).

A few years back I met Bill Bailey. He was getting out of his car just as I came off the path at the bottom of Fleetwith Pike on to Honister Pass. He was renting a cottage with his family in Gatesgarth. Lovely fella.

Oh no it doesn't.

I give you Bonnie Tyler! (My brother, ahead of me going down Mumbles Hill, and she stepped out in front of him. Would have done the world a service if his brakes hadn't worked..)

No that's Bron Y Aur which is North of Mach, this was right up at the top of Artists Valley, I subsequently found out that Robert Plant owned a place further down the valley so perhaps not so unusual. Was a bit strange at the time though.

Not whilst riding, but got flown back as a medical emergency after bike crash in Bolivia and was sat next to (actually more slumped on combination of morphine and red wine) Sophie Ellis Bexter on the Miami to London leg who was actually really nice and "mothered" me a bit, kept making sure I was comfortable and asked steward to operate chair for me, even gave me her email address to let her know how i got on recovering.
