You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Even after spending yesterday evening laying out kit and preparing the bike for a ride this morning so as not to wake the rest of the family - the weather beat me into submission. I bet i am not the only one today !
yup 25mph winds, moorland and bikes dont go well...oh & rain - sunny tomorrow though!
Glad I rode yesterday, oh well time to wade through the stack of inner tubes that need patching me thinks
Nope, sunny as **** here. Off out now 🙂
ive been lent a santa cruz chameleon to test ride since tues and ive still not got out on it yet, bloody weather got to be like it next 2wks
Never went back to bed... but texted the lads with
"no way am i going out in this weather"
So the ride was cancelled.
It's throwing it down here but the show must go on, van packed ready for a ride around the lakes, this weather is why I have waterproofs 🙂
Sometimes just makes sense to not go out. Turn it into a day of rest, gym turbo and surfing the net 🙂
*puts hand up from beneath his warm duvet*
Pawsey if I don't go out the girlfriend will just find me a crap job to do, I prefer the rain lol
Neighbours had a very drunken party, complete with police attendance and shouty threats 'till 2am, so no sleep.
Am leading a group of idiots round the moors from Heptonstall at 10.30.
Bring on the torrential rain and 25mph winds!
How bad can it actually get? It's only weather and it is nearly May....... 😀
Am still in bed....
I knew i would not be alone today ! Might go and sort out my spares box and find out the summer tyres . . . . . . .
Road ride nr Heptonstall yesterday, wind was horrendous so staying in bed today!
what's riding a bike 😉 😳 p.s haven't yet gone to bed (thanks insomnia 🙁
not a cloud in the sky up in glasgow today so have myself a nice wee xc ride across the kilpatrick hills
Just finished texting the lads pulling out of our planned ride today.
I ride for fun and it does not look like fun out there!
I already had a day of 'rest' planned.... However, I'll be building a pair of new road/cx wheels, finishing off making the race mtb 2x9, and ironically converting the winter ss mtb to gears for the 'summer'.
Not seen it yet, but hearing it against the window!
"Once more unto the breach, dear friends"
Well, you can, I'll be staying indoors today and having an interal dialogue of self-recrimination countered by justification.
Still, it's too late to go out now - I've been nabbed for other duties. I should be able to go swimming with my daughter later, though, so better buck-up and make it a nice family day instead.
Suns out here in NE Scotland. That's two days on the trot.
Makes a bleeding change that's for sure.
Bit nippy still though...
Will be heading out in the afternoon. It'll be a mud bath though, what with all the recent 'biblical' rain...
No ride today for me,Its like a monsoon.
at least 30mph wind and pouring with rain.
Went out yesterday so not so bad
Arranged a ride for this morning and received text after text all gaying out with man flu etc etc 😀
No riding here but not long off the nightshift and just walked down to the swingpark and backwith my boy.
Should have tired him right out so the wife has a chilled day with him!
Kilpatricks will be great this morning, bit windy I'm guessing but blue skys and bright sun- lovely.
Good luck to you if you enjoy riding in this weather, but I don't. So I don't.
"Remember, the hardest part of a ride is from Bed to Shed. Get out and get rained on & blown about - you'll feel good for the rest of the day"
@fatladrides
Woke up to the sound of water dripping somewhere in the house, so a day of DIY ahead...not that I wanted to ride in this.
Rode 30 mins to and from first aid course yesterday. Ride there was great, but just as I set off home at 2 the rain started and I arrived home looking like I had been rolling around in a swamp. Oh, and the rain stopped as soon as I stepped in the house!! Today looks like a pub day.
Yup, got soaked on Thurs night and no doubt again tomorrow so decided to give it a miss. I'll prob clean the bike today and mess about in the garage with stuff. Got a bit of DIY to do and also the off to see Avengers later.
I wasn't planning on riding today anyway, had a nice road ride yesterday. Rain actually isn't bad here but it's very windy.
I was meant to be taking the fatty to Kenfig 🙁 howling wind and lots of rain. Mmmmm what to do now?
It was alright here, just spent the last hour barrowing a builders bag of sub base in to the back garden. Only just started raining.
Yesterday was a lovely day for the 3 Peaks running race too.
Hopefully out on the bike tomorrow when its supposed to be another nice sunny day.
Just got back from doing this. Was planning to do 35 miles in prep for the Dyfi next Sunday but bailed out. In all the years of riding up on the Longmynd, this morning really was one of the most extreme! My advice; don't be an idiot and stay under those covers!
I don't have the chance to ride at weekends that often but I had planned to go out this afternoon - it doesn't seem right to stay at home.
That said, it is pretty gash out there...
Optimal conditions for a ride over here, so it makes sense that I have huge amounts of work to catch up with... 👿
Yes, no riding for me today. That is grim and the trails are truly sodden!
Got up early to get out before the worst of the weather arrived, but have a stinking cold so bike was rejected in favour of a shuffle along the beach beside a wild sea, in memory of my friend whose funeral I was at yesterday. She was only 34 and died in a car crash last week - time to remind myself that we never know when our lives might be suddenly cut short and to make the most of our time right here and now, regardless of the weather.
Shortcut - Not nice round 'ere is it? 🙁
I was in the West Midlands this week. In the last 6 days including today, I've seen 4 days solid rain, and now 3 on the trot, and the other 2 days were showers 🙁
That's it.
I've had enough now, thanks.
Already been in the loft armed with buckets. Now off to pump the pond out. Can't get any wetter after walking the dog. Cross Bike then I think, 1 hour of splashing to the local woods, falling off in there then home for tea and medals. How bad can it be? Actually I'll not answer that question until I get back.
find out the summer tyres
I'll be putting the rubber queens back on the bike today, the race kings can come off!
Looked at the rain, thought "Nah, do some fettling instead" but it's too bloody cold in t'garage (5 C). So, sat here drinking tea and eating toast plus I think I've just volunteeted to go furniture shopping, with the missus!
Damn you, weather!
I rode hard in the week, mrsbouys been working hard, we've had some breckie and coffee and deciding where to go walking, then I'm having my hair cut, then preparing for this coming week s interesting activities (planned and none planned) currently watching Sunday Brunch supping.coffee and listening to the rain and wind lash the windows.
Bike fettled and ready to go - has been for weeks - full of a cold and too little effort on my part to make time to go out......
All the best plans for today - doubly so as i'm home alone (ok, Ted the terrier is here as well!)
Waking to wind and sleet = sod that, walk dog, do chores. Eat bacon butties....
Just about to get outside of cappucino #2
As a type this 5 or 6 brave MTB'ing souls just rolled past my front window...
I have just seen the BBC weather map for 10am. Not normally like that. I think they have turned the UK upside down.
Might venture out this afternoon/evening on the full-on mud-guarded road bike as the forecast says the rain may ease off. Really can't face another turbo session.
sunny, 4 degrees and blowing a hoolie here south of Glasgow. A long, cold, windy Pentlands road ride yesterday so coupled with an excess of red wine last night am quite happy to not ride today !
Yes but its more to do with the hangover than the weather! I walked/ran home from town last night (bad idea, it was cold and wet) so I feel I can get away without biking for a day 🙂 So I think today will be bike maintenance and tea drinking day.
just been informed that since i am here all day then we can go to IKEA ! Still every cloud and all that since Decathlon is next door and i could do with some new bib tights !
My group have headed out anyway. Good luck to them. They all ride regularly during the week so I really can't understand why you would go out in such conditions today.
I'm heading out to get a massive breakfast roll from the nearest van.
I'm thinking 1/2 pound beef, 2 eggs, bacon, cheese, mushrooms and onions with a gentle lather of mustard and tomato sauce.
Strangely, I quite enjoy riding in this filth. Although a heavy night means I'm still in bed and my gf just volunteered to make tea and toast. Win!
Been bed bound with man flu for the last 4 days. Bored.
Good day for running 🙂
Great sunny day in Aberdeen 😀
Not quite as manly as my previous post made out 😉 10 minutes outside sorting pond pump out convinced me today shall be ear-marked 'winter barn heaters, pint of tea and pointless fettle'. There was some brief discussion re:IKEA but I've gone selectively deaf.
Been out this morning, very wet and windy in Lancashire... I did see 3 other people daft enough to be out, got a ride in yesterday as well son I'm relatively happy, afternoon of fettling methinks!!
I did, cats didn't
Armed for this afternoon 'tho
I'll venture up to Afan in a bit for Whites - not too much rain now just frickin windy and cold
Looks like a day for a bit of maintenance and earning brownie points from the family!
Just got back from llandegla, had penmachno planned all week but did a detour after 30 mins of aquaplaning on the A55!
Anyway, horrible but good if that makes any sense.
On the couch now watching tuff puppy with the kids, happy days!
Ps Seal skinz are sh*t
Still in bed! 3 Espressos didn't work.
Get up in a minute to watch MOTO GP and then back to bed!
Later might drive airport and book 1way ticket to somewhere else...
Did a quick road loop on the ss. Thoroughly miserable and very, very cold. Just getting the feeling back in my extremities. Glad I did it though.
Out of the house by 6am this morning, on my bike at Ambleside by 7. Three hour route round iron keld, oxen fell, high tilberthwaite, elterwater, loughrigg terrace then back to Ambleside. Back home by 11:30. Only started raining on the way home on the motorway. Gotta love these early morning starts.
Just back from a ride on my own after my riding partner cried off. Pretty grim; cold, windy, wet and muddy. Didn't see a single other person for some reason. Mrs Rusty has a log fire and a shepherd's pie waiting for me. Bless her.
Been out with the lads in East Sussex - the rain was only light today, even though its been pissing down all week!!
It was wet, but not really muddy, on a carefully selected route!! There were a few new "rivers" to mess around in, and the 6 inch torrent on the road home cleaned the bike nicely!!
All in all, a great morning out - I love summer!!!!
fettling 4 me, Ive breathed in a lot of TF2 spray, will I die?
at some point i will go for a run
We had bad weather the other day but today is one of the best days of the year so far. Bit breezy but blue as a blue thing.
Didn't even need to open the curtains, could hear the rain hitting the glass feel a disturbingly large draft coming around the windowframes. Reckon its silicon sealant time again...

As long as don't smoke or sit by the fire I reckon it'll be fine, if do then spontaneous combustion springs to mind.
You are all officially fairweather fairies. My one year old daughter is less of a wuss than you lot! We went to swimming with the bike trailer as normal, it was fun - one point I had to pedal whilst heading downhill with 30 kg of trailer and child because the wind was so hard.
I must admit though, I might try and talk her out of her evening balance bike ride, although I dunno how succesfull I'll be, she's been out every evening for at least the last week. Thank goodness for my big goretexcoat!
Chucking with rain here, sideways wind and loads of mud. Of course I went out - that's what GoreTex jacket and shorts are designed for. Although our normal ride average 10-14 was whittled down to two. We both had a great time on the empty trails.
Softies, I rode but it was cold, wet and windy
Rules 5 and 9
Went down to ride the Wiggle Ups and Downs road sportive. Cancelled due to the weather. Three options - ride the course and hope they don't remove the signs, Go home or ride locally. Chose to ride a loop around Box Hill five times dreaming of Olympic glory 😉 . Called it a day after 40 miles.
Its high winds that stopped me today, not too bothered about the rain as we're used to it near Manchester.
Woodburner is fired up.
Some stupid neighbours have put out all their wheelie bins for collection tomorrow, which have all been blown over, recycled paper and rubbish swirling everywhere now and getting a bit of height.
Edit - just got back from helping them clear up, however its impossible.
Was out yesterday in similar weather to today and it was foul. After a couple of weeks of crap weather, the terrain was sodden. Can't pretend I enjoyed one minute of it.
Best bit of the ride was the coffee and biscuits when I got back to the house.
Bunch o poofs!!
Spent the last 3 hours over a Delamere and it was great, didn't see another bike the whole time I was there.
Rain, mud, wind, the more the better as far as I'm concerned...
wet and horrible, but still enjoyed it 🙂
trees down all over the place. was like a january ride with leaves
Dodged the bits of tree, horizontal rain and standing water early this morning on the road bike in the Cheshire Alps. Sieze the day and all that. Anyway - it wasn't so bad - mudguards, decent jacket, bibs and goretex boots, skull cap and "waterproof" gloves. It was fine. Winter miles, summer smiles isn't it? More to the point, how come it's still winter...! 😯
50km on the road bike in the peaks. Coming back across Houndkirk moor with a ridiculous headwind was a bit more character building than I'd have liked. Oh, and I got back to find it raining in my living room.
Still, my weather karma must be properly balanced for the Dyfi now. It's got to stop raining soon, right?
It's been blowing a gale here in Fife, bitterly cold, but we braved the elements and got forty or so hilly miles in. There were loads of roadies out today. There were perhaps a dozen of us in a cafe in Dollar.
Paint-balling with 15 x 11 year olds - I win.
