Sympathise with that. Injury and flipping cold from hell on top of a heavy work load. Keep walking into the garage looking at the bikes and muttering.

Hip flexor went on me last week, feels largely ok now, but I'm being sensible especially as I'm doing HONC in 2 weeks!

I spent far too long over the last year with injury after injury and now I've been at work all weekend - and you've gone and had Summer...

Me! I'm two weeks in to a four month stretch of chemo, and feel rubbish! I reckon I'll be back on the bike just in time for the clocks to change again!

All the best with that, and most of all enjoy yr walk.

Similar situation here although told last October they didnt think it a hernia but a tear/strain and to 'rest' for three months. So I stayed off the bike until two weeks ago and just a gentle ride around the block went and re-injured it. Unbe-f-lievable. Why they didn't just give me a scan last year when it went 'pop' for the third time? GP/specialist lottery I guess. Keep telling self that it will alll come good but I've never been off a bike for this long and it is right unsettling tbh.

Ok moan out of the way, I'm off 'strolling' with Mrs who's in a far worse state than me so no room to grumble.

Edit*

Jeez, thats a tough one, healing vibes....

+1k. loverofminkys wishing you strength and a fast return to cycling. If by any chance you do GTAV online (Playstation) then why not come virtual mtbing with me and some other idiots? Probably loads of good reasons why not, but you never know! 😉 PM in profile

Also - Downhill Domination on PS2. I call it training.

Thanks all. Yeah it's going to be a long summer! But I've had this before and will get through it again. Plus I've been allowed a new bike when it's all over! Every cloud and all that! And I'm Xbox but thank you

And I'm Xbox but thank you

No worries, if you ever want to try a bit of retro mtb via Downhill Domination yr welcome to borrow it (and my PS2 console) for the summer. I probably won't be using now it until winter. No need to respond, just if you ever want them drop me a PM with addy and I'll put it in a box.

Does anyone find find that gaming (while physically incapacitated) helps, or frustrates? I was wheelchair-bound for 2 years wayback when and my cousin loaned me his console along with the first Tomb Raider. Flipping amazing. Like I became an overnight athlete/gunslinger replete with pyramidical boobs. I think it stopped me going nuts at the time but also got me mildly addicted to gaming 8)

Nothing like the above. Hope the chemo goes well.

I'm five months off and counting. Hoping now I can exercise it a bit on an exercise bike that I can move onto an actual bike by end of May in time to salvage some summer riding.

Being off the bike is really hard, and really boring. Looking forward to the world cup to have a distraction.

Me. I can't face sitting for hours in the car just to ride my bike around a flat bit of woodland I've ridden hundreds of times before. Lincolnshire is stupid and I hate it, wah wah wah! 👿

Frustratingly not managed to get out despite having a working body and bike, but with family commitments. Even more annoying in that next weekend will also be out after a hospital visit later this week. Still, could be worse, heeling vibes to all the ill and injured.

I've been off work since wed night, don't go back til thu, (scheduled days off) its summer here in fife and i have the cold. The sore throat kicked in mid afternoon on Wednesday, perfectly timed to **** up my time off.
Normally, of course, it would be the weather that ****ed up my time off, ive lost count of the times that six days at work coincided to the minute with six days of beautiful weather, only for the rain to start whilst im on my way back to the depot.
Its like some sort of nightmare, played over and over and over again.

I've purposefully taken the weekend off exercise (either bike or running) to recover from what's been a fairly hard going few weeks at work, culminating in a big event on Friday.

Still, feels like a pretty shoddy excuse compared to some people and I do still feel a bit crap for not getting out onto the trails in this glorious sunshine.

Me. Had been so looking forward to first opportunity to ride both days of weekend since last year, weather is brilliant (not a cloud in the sky and barely a breath of wind) and I've been stuck working all weekend with a few hours still to go. Last time I was out, (Tuesday) there was snow everywhere!
Feeling a bit guilty about being a self-indulgent moaner with little to complain about compared to other reasons above - get well/heal soon all, esp loverofminkys

Two Christenings this weekend so no rides for me. Did get out Friday though, was passed by a roadie who said Hi and had the biggest calf muscles I've ever seen. Then a bike sidled up to me and I heard "don't want to embarrass you son but I'm 83". This happened going up a steep boring climb. I was sucking gas, the oldie was laughing too. Then I heard "'sallright son I'm on an Ebike. He was cool was Harold, 83 and back out riding due to leisure lakes in Bury lending him the Ebike.
Big prayers for everyone on here who is injured, incapacitated or undergoing treatment. God bless you all and safe riding(well, a bit anyhow) when you get to it.

Update from me, headed out around 2200hrs and managed 30 miles.
Went along an old railway track which is now a cycle track, Bluetooth headphones in, was great.
Not a breath of wind, i sat and listened to a barn owl and a barking dog for ten minutes at one point.

Well it's beautiful here in Manchester great day for a bike ride.... Nope, shifting furniture all day at mother-in-laws. Just lowered a single orthopaedic bed out of 1st floor window using a rope. It was assembled in the room and wouldn't go out. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't equate the workout to biking through the woods.

Thanks to a piss poor attempt at a drop off at FOD yesterday I am now in the broken collar bone club. Healing vibes and get well wishes to all who are going through the frustration of being out of action and those weathering a hell of a lot more.

Get well soon to everyone on here who is suffering from some injury or ailment. I pray you all recover. Sometimes the hardest rides are the ones we do off the bike.

Thanks Strawman. Tried a 2 mile bimble last night* on a retro Rockhopper (easier uphill than the 2x10). Not as bad as the last outing a few weeks back but still woke at 4.30am in pain. New consultant appt on Thurs. Fingers crossed, and for everyone else currently afflicted by rideless-ness.

*Damn, it felt momentarily good. A pint also. Bike propped in the beer garden and a pint. FELT NORMAL! I know it was really a facsimile and face a long time off the bike ahead, but a taste (a micro-bimble) is sometimes all it takes to lift the spirit. That's now a total of about 8 miles in 8 months.

Malvern rider, it's great you got out. I just bought a Rockhopper from 96,it's a bit heavy and the left crank keeps falling off, it's in great condition otherwise and it's got me back out cycling. Good luck with the consultant.

taken out by a dog on Thursday Mudguard wire thingy pierced my leg - thankfully sideways so it hit my shin and did not go deep but has left a bit of a mess and a possibly chipped shin
Painkillers and crutches though I seem to be making a quick recovery and am now walking unaided

Might get out on the road bike soonish but offroad is a number of weeks away

My rear shock is at Mojo awaiting parts, with a 6 week old baby and a toddler I would have no time to go for a ride anyway,

I don't know about "fine weather" - I've just come down for a cuppa to warm up after working up on scaffolding. It felt as cold as any time through the winter. Dull, grey, miserable and a fresh NW wind......

Made it back out on road last Sunday, a day short of 3 weeks post hernia repair and have managed about 120 miles over 4 rides, so on the road to recovery of some fitness. Another 10 days and then back on MTB 😀

Some great responses on this thread and my thoughts are with all those who can't ride for whatever reasons.

Ianc that's great news.
Longmover talk to your partner and schedule some time, I stopped cycling when my kids came along as there seemed to be never enough time, my bike went to rust even though greased and covered, it's half rebuilt. I've only just got back out cycling after 12 years . I bought a 2nd hand Rockhopper just to get out. Time really does fly when children arrive. Not complaining, I love my kids. I should have claimed at least two hours a week to do a quick ride, I'd be in much better shape now.

Went out last Thursday evening, only got 2 minutes from house attempting manuals down a lane and flew off the back. Skin off one elbow and portion off my back, and somehow managed to fracture big toe on opposite foot to the side I landed on!

Thoroughly gutted, as just got bike back after shock repair, and daughter was off on a weeks holiday with grandparents, giving me lots of free time to get out. Old enough to know better. Too daft to realise.

Strawman, I still get to ride, I have booked a couple in for May already and would be riding on Good Friday if I had a rear shock, alas it will give me some time to sort the jungle/garden out.

My kids are away with grandparents for ten days, my beloved wife who I really though understood my need to get out cycling in this fantastic weather announced "We are decorating the kids bedroom for when they come back" I'm now painting in blistering heat as the sun is pouring in through the kids bedroom window. It's just not on.

Seeing as I started the thread 😀

Back to regular riding and nearly regular fitness, just in time to join a regrouping of the 2016 Prostate Cancer Awareness Ride that me and some pals did this time last year, with a great write up by Sanny.

10 of us in Cairngorms for 4 days riding this weekend, forecast looks brill ! Look out for Sanny's pics post weekend 🙂

Small beans compared to some on the thread, but fractured elbow means probably another 5 weeks off the MTB at least.

SO looking forward to a few weeks on the turbo...

I'm half way through a month offshore and missing my mtb.
I've made it worse by putting a nice picture of my bike posed in the lake district on my desktop.
Trying to keep fit with weights and a knackered out concept2 rowing machine.

Stepped down off something earlier and my foot cracked. Went down like a sack of spuds and can't put any weight on it, and have a large lump near ankle.
Hopefully it's just a strain and the weekend off, a break will screw Tweed Love and the rest of the summer

turned up for a mtb ride last summer to find my dropper post stuck down. Being a gentleman and not wanting to spoil my mates ride out, I soldiered on for 3 hours with a seatpost far too low. Right knee hasn't been right ever since, rested it over the winter, but first time in 7 months cycling 6 miles on the canal to work a few weeks ago right knee was still complaining. Been out walking in the Dales the last three days and today it seemed a bit better, might try cycling to work tomorrow.

Been off for two weeks now after being hit by a car driver and breaking my back in two places (L1&L3). Home from hospital and can walk a bit but not far.
Will be off the bike for a couple of months I think. My tan lines are going to disappear 🙁

Positive and healing vibes going out to those going through the mill above.

I do have a horrible cold though. I'm currently boiling my nads off inside trying to decorate the children's bedrooms.

Serious case of Manflu here with a chest infection. Although I may go for a walk later before the Giro starts to get some fresh air between hot & cold sweats...

If only I could, as I have a serious quad strain that'll keep me off the bike for a few weeks. 🙁

not been able to ride since beginning of February due to c6-c7 disc prolapse. Never felt pain like it. Recovery is progressing slowly following lots of various treatments - however I keep trying the turbo which sets me back. On the plus side my bikes are all very shiny as I am cleaning them a lot by way of minor compensation.

Look after back/necks people. And stay off trampolines - it may be damn good fun with the kids but that stops when you get it wrong and whiplash your neck.
