I only have the one bike, a full sus, that I occasionally commute on. Not too ridiculous though as it’s only 140/130 travel.

Sometimes ride into work on my FS. It's less than 5 mins by bike on the road, so you could say that's a bit daft. It looks daft next to all the road bikes and shoppers in the compound.

I see someone commuting and going to the park with their kid on a huge intense with triple clamp fox 40s on it.

140mm travel full suspension with Maxxis Minions. Over 3000 miles last year. Totally unsuitable although it’s a partial off-road commute and it got me fit.

When I sold Mrs_oab's I had to ride it to work for buyer to collect, on s day with car in garage. So that's a 6' rider on a pink 13" Trek...

I used to commute on a fatbike occasionally. It was 9 miles each way, though a couple of times the roads were all closed due to snow so maybe not so inappropriate then.

gawd - confessing this on a public forum...

Hmm, my frankenbike cove stiffee with 5in bombers, 700c wheels, with discs and 32mm road tyres.

Was brilliantly fast and felt great, until it became necessary to actually stop, at all.

Fun 10km commute though.

Fat bike occasionally, but worked because I was trying to get fit/it had snowed.

Worst was this...

https://flic.kr/p/fAAN3h

a 50+lbs gearbox DH bike with DH casing kenda nevegals, while my normal bike was in bits for some reason. Didn’t get much work done that week...

I often see kiddies heading off to school on BMX bikes, legs going sewing machine needles and their knees higher than their ears - still way faster than walking though.

I do 10 miles on my hard tail with 2.6 minions on often feel there could be a better option for me.

There was a casually dressed unicyclist (disc brake, unsure of wheel size but possibly 29") headed up the station access road last week when I dropped my wife off, obviously not sure whether he was a commuter without asking him.

When I worked in Croydon a few years back I'd regularly see a guy on a Demo 8 heading northwards on the A23 round Norbury/Thornton Heath.

Fatbike 25miles from Reading to Staines. Not everyday though, I usually had a SS 29er. Got fed up of the abuse from drivers on the road bike.

I think I occasionally cross TiRed on his track bike (there may be more than one commuter in Surrey on a carbon track bike).

Used to ride into college on my fatbike. Nice and early, nobody about so used to ride right into the building through the fire exit, around the dogleg in the corridor, then down a flight of steps before arriving at my room. Surprised a few cleaners now and again 😂

Leaving I would also ride off the loading bay down the steep steps. Sick brah.

I did 25 mile e/w on my Sub 5 with 2.3 tyres on ONCE. I was younger and dafter then.Slowest commute ever.

Guy riding the back road around Sowerby Bridge regularly on what looks like a full sus e-bike with 2.7" tyres and a full face helmet. Radical to the max...

I do a 20mile round trip commute 2 times per week with my 150/150mm enduro 29er, Minions included.
Not the greatest tool for the job, but it's the most comfortable bike ever and I manage to avoid the roads as much as possible

supreme SX 180mm but its on only 3 miles to the next village. Those 1250g DD casings keep the legs worked. Anything longer will use the gravel bike.

How are you liking the SX?

I feel that I've bought a ****ing gem that has been discontinued just as the rest of the world caught up with how good it is. A few mags have rated it as one of the best bikes of 2018 now, one bikeradar review had it clocking faster times than DH bikes on the black lines at BPW!

I like it so much, that when I come to replace it, I'm just going to have carbonwasp modify the design as a 29er or 29/27.5 by either running an entirely custom frame or having a new swingarm molded out of carbon!

My last place, there's a Kona Stinky in the bike shed. I go into the office and say to someone in an amused way "Someone's riding a downhill mountain bike to work!". Fella looks round "That's me!"
😀
Gawd bless 'im, was a bit dense. Once got locked in the building on a night-shift and climbed out of the toilet window, only to find himself in an inner courtyard. I had a seizure that time, I can tell ya.

I assume before the linkage cracked?

Bolt came loose didn't it? So either the reviewer hadn't done it up properly after receiving a used bike or it was a shit bolt! My bolts look a bit shite so they are getting replaced with grade 8.8 steel ones and locktighted!

Something to keep an eye on, but then again I've always checked torque specs on bolts regularly - loosening bolts have happened to most of the bikes I've owned.

Can't say these ones have come loose yet and it's been ridden pretty hard! New bolts usually loosen up a bit from new!

EDIT: Pivot bolt, not a shock bolt! There haven't been any problems for me with those losing toque either! That bolt doesn't look like it takes much force that could shear it either. I would have thought something would have broken on the link that connects the rear swingarm to the rocker pivot had it been a hard bottom out that caused it!

Anyway, Commencal discontinued them due to a lack of sales - so he won't be getting a new one for review because of that.

Overall, I'm dead pleased with getting a frame that rides like this for 1100 - and I haven't had any reliability issues unlike my Reign.

Commute bikes of mine have always been reasonably well chosen for the task, however when I was younger I did used to do the odd club 10-mile TT on a 1940's post office bike with 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears. Always sub 30 mins, and never the slowest!

2007 Marin Wolf Ridge. Commute is all tarmac so naturally I've gone with the fast rolling option of on-one Chunky Monkey / Smorgasbord tyres.

Over the last 10 years of commuted on many an unsuitable bike. The worst infringement would be a carbon Jekyll 2 with a lot of upgrades on a 5 mile commute. The best was my OnOne Fatty. On one day on the Fatty I met a reclining bike, a fast looking trike, an off-road tandem and a unicycle. The circus was in town for sure! 👍🏼

"Really? More abuse due to drop bars?"

I have wondered if you look more like a CYCLIST when riding drop bars, and less like a PERSON riding a bike. I wouldn't know, I've only ridden drops a few times in my life!

For a few years I've commuted on my 160/140mm full-sus or my 150mm hardtail. They only feel seriously unsuitable on the tarmac grind home when they're wearing cut spikes in the depths of winter - but on the steep DH tech on the way in I appreciate those tyres.

I'm now commuting on a 160/150 29er full-sus e-bike and it's the bestest and funnest commuter ever!!!

140/150mm FS with 2.3/2.5 Minion DHF tyres, 32-33lbs of it, for a 2 mile commute 🙂 Takes me 10 minutes but it does have a couple of 'offroad' bits where I'd have to jump off or go very slowly on a road bike.

Minion up front, Aggressor on the back. Both in normal size. I also used to commute on a Trek Stache in 29er guise with a Vee Bulldozer 3” on the front and a Bombolini at the back 😀

I commute a 20 mile round trip about twice a week on average - more in summer less in winter sort of thing. I do use my 160mm full suss with minions occasionally as I'm fortunate that there's a couple of reds halfway between work and home. The rest of the time I'd be on my Bird Zero - again with minions. Very occasionally I use the road bike but it feels like dicing with death in comparison (and that's just the potholes).

I don't see it as a chore using the MTB, in fact the exact opposite. The road bike is way more stressful.

I have seen a scrote scuttling around Manchester on an Orange Downhill bike. Looked very odd...

I've seen a BMX rider in London, he'd spin madly for a little while then freewheel, and repeat

I commuted home 10 miles on my bike with a broken saddle clamp (so I had to stand the whole way) and with one pedal cleat broken (at the same time) so I could only clip in on one side. Was quite an annoying ride home!

Years ago I used to commute to work on my BMX wearing a suit, realise now might have looked odd, back then didnt care!

A friend at work commutes on his Trek Session, its not even an older one, its a 2017! He only rides a few miles on roads.

Fatbike (Voodoo Wazoo), usually but not always equipped with Fatnotfat 29er wheels, less than 10 miles per day so easily takes under 45mins with ~400 feet of climbing unless I'm really struggling after a work shift (delivering mail at a brisk pace) and/or there is a easterly headwind home. Best time of ~14mins in and ~20mins home.

All amateurs.

Used to be a guy who commuted to central Glasgow from Paisley on a red Brooklyn, IIRC it was a TMX or Big Link with Boxxers and possibly running Nokian Gazzas (in 3.0 natch).

Quite a few times last year I commuted on my 160/165 Enduro bike but it pedals so well it was very close time-wise to my hard tail - and hitting the trails on the way in or on the way home was ace.

I commute on a former PO bike with 3-speed SA gears. Honestly the best commuter bike I've ever had, for my 7km a day commute.

Used to do 15 miles on a Stanton Sherpa with 3 inch tyres and 140mm suspension. Inappropriate and slow. But comfy and let me nip into the woods every now and again if the mood took me. Sold it now though and will be commuting on a single speeded 2002 Kona Lava dome

BMX commute was always a slow affair, used to do 10 miles across London. Had to mix it up with ragging it around steps and concrete drops to make it slightly less like a wasted 2 hours.

Quite glad when it was stolen and I could get a big bike.

Another one here sometimes on a Fatty; although I do have a fairly conventional steel 29er for general commute duties, I fairly often ride my Fatty on its 4.8 Minions. The ride has shortened lately to only 14 miles each way and with over 50% off road and a route that includes lots of singletrack on the Sidlaw Hills, it's all good. The worst part is a homeward bound climb section of nearly a mile on tarmac, which is just a grind. However, being out on a winter's night with frozen ground, a dusting of new snow and moonlight more than makes up for it!!

A kickbike is good fun. Though I've not commuted on it for a wee while, it's not so comfy if wearing wellies, or carrying luggage.

I commute on an Orbea Rallon but take the long route home through the woods, fields and streams. It’s far more entertaining to ride through the urban jungle than my road bike, down steps off walls, jumping speed bumps.
