Would somebody be kind enough to point me in the direction of an easy, beginners off road route in the White Peak area please?
A GPS file would be immense if you have one?
I'm taking a couple of complete beginners out at the weekend. 15 miles or so? A cafe stop would be a major highlight or I'll take flasks and cakes.
Thanks in advance.

I've got a nice easy route around Castleton. 16 miles, but could be shortened. Cafes at Hope and Edale. Depending on where you're coming from, you could start in Old Dam.

What sort of file do you want (gpx or mmo)? Or I could send a pdf.

Thanks for the offer but that's Dark Peak.

White Peak = limestone
Dark Peak = gritstone
I thought the boundary was the Hope Valley 😕

How about the classic Whaley Bridge to Buxton route from Taxal over the Goyt then Buxton Old Road and back? Nothing particularly technical on it, but some lovely views and there must be a caff or two in Buxton? I did a GPX file for a mate a few weeks back, so could probably dig it out if you're interested?

Hope and Edale are very definitely Dark Peak but thank you anyway.
That could be useful Jon, thanks. Pavillion Gardens would do for a cuppa. They can walk back up the hill 🙂
Anybody have anything around Chatsworth, Eyam, that kind of thing?

Loads of stuff round Beeley / Rowsley / Chatsworth but will be a boggy hell hole this time of year (was great last weekend when it was frozen solid though!)

Stuff round Bakewell should all be fairly rideable - Monsall head area. A good loop would be out over the top of Monsall head over to Brushfield / Priestcliffe, and back along the Wye valley through the railway tunnels.

Yes, but it a) might be a bit much for beginners at 20-odd miles, although it does make a fair bit of use of the Monsal Trail, and b) what benman said about bogs and hell-holes.

Oh, and I haven't got a GPX being a luddite...

It's worth buying this online - White Peak Guide There is a free sample route at the foot of the page if that just happens to be in the area you want to go.

I used this book whilst up there last summer, there were a couple of routes which went through Eyam

Castleton route with Hope & Edale is still just about White Peak but on the crossover. If you want south there's a decent beginner route around Grangemill which is good, don't have a GPX file though.

White Peak book is good, but lacking in the OS map's of the Dark Peak book. The first classic route in the book is Ashover by Chatsworth, if you look on amazon you can do the look inside to get the route and map.
