I'm staying in Whitby this weekend and I'm planning a road route returning via the coast. I'm not opposed to a bit of gravel on my Trek Domane, it was designed for pave after all, but is it possible to get a fair speed up without rattling my teeth out. Or might I be better finding a quiet road option (I don't really fancy the A171).

me and the wife rode it from whitby to scarboro last october. we were riding tourers with 32c tyres. some odd rough bits but mainly a good smothish surface. nice too.

It's just the bit from Ravenscar to RHB that's downhill, a couple of miles. I've done it on a road bike with 25mm tyres.

It's got fantastic views. Well worth it. The main road is a busy road between whitby and Scarborough

Not a bad trail.

Some views obscured by the fact that most of it is going on the former railway.

Larpool Viaduct is massive highlight. Figuratively and literary 🙂

Cheers!
I.
