[Closed] Which winter road tyres

I've used GP4Seasons 28c and sport contact 32c on my commuter, not sure how much is down to the larger volume but I prefer the sport contacts. And they were half the price. Great for spiniing arroudn the lanes on a Suday morning.

Schwalbe Blizzard 25c on the 'raceing' bike. Cheep enough that I don't bother to swap them off for the turbo, grippy (they go round corners and stop, it's not a race, I've had much worse) and feel comfortable enough for lots of miles. Caseing in the tread area seems quite thick which bodes well for milage and puncture resistance, touch wood they've not yet .

Gator skins are squeaky in the wet and have a horrible ride quality due to the stiffer low TPI carcass.
Gp4000's. (s or non-s) or 4-season. There is a Michelin rain tyre that is meant to be good too.

Used a 25c 4 season for the first time yesterday, very impressed

my only complaints about the 4seasons were:
a) price
b) more like 3 season, they fell appart after a summer on the commuter stored outside in sunlight (and bear in mind this was last sumer).

Pro 4 Endurance

My GP 4 season 28's have been amazing in winter conditions - borderline freezing temps on wet roads they just grip grip grip, quite amazing really - I use disc brakes on the winter road bike so there is braking power available to test the tyre! They feel nice as well.

Never used them in the summer though - I can't vouch for long term wear either as I've only had them on this winter, but they seem to be wearing well so far.

I got them as a pair deal with tubes from wiggle when the were £63, they are now £72, but still worth the money IMO.

Big thing check how easy it is to get certain tyres on/off your rims. Michelin are very easy to take off put on. Some combinations are not.

Just put a new set of 23c GP 4Seasons on my winter bike. The last pair did 5000 miles with maybe 2 or 3 punctures. Plus they ride like normal race tyres.

I can't stand Conti Gatorskins, not sure why they get such good reviews, find them very unpredictable and not at all confidence inspiring.

My go to winter/training tyre is a 25mm Schwalbe Blizzard in what ever flavour is cheapest. They last well, grip well, roll well and are pretty cheap, can't remember having much in the way of flats of several tens of thousands of Km's either. I bought a box of 10 the last time they were super cheap on PlanetX, will last me forever!

Have used Bonti race lites (25s) for the last few years

Michelin Krylions get good reviews and I've been pretty impressed when I've had them. Are you sure they're not just worn out?

GP4Seasons (28s)

Tried Krylions (good), gators (didn't like), Duranos (so-so) and various others and the GP4s are the best IMO. Good grip, feel, mileage and toughness. Wouldn't use anything else these days.

Got another flint/object through my Duranos this weekend and think I'm going to buy some GP 4 Seasons and use all year. I would rather have slightly less efficient tyres and no punctures, can't help but feel disappointed with the Duranos. 2 objects through the tyres in 3 rides.

Pro4 Endurance are brill, but I was using Krylions for years before they appeared with barely any punctures. If you're getting flats every ride I'd look at other possible causes as well.

It's just the time of year, the roads are littered with crap after all this rain. I don't race, but happily use ultremo ZX's in summer with no issues despite their being condom thin!

I've got some Schwalbe Stelvio Rains in 25c width. They do the job nicely, but I've not used enough other road tyres to compare.

GP4000s are frankly awesome in the wet, albeit expensive.
the only punctures I have had in them are from tiny bits of glass that pierce the rubber and then gradually, over a period of time, get pushed through the carcass and nick the inner tube.
if you check them regularly enough for these bits of glass, then you shouldn't have any problems. I use them on road and commuter bikes.

this is in comparison to Michelin Race and Krylion tyres which I used to run and would cut up and puncture a lot more readily.

@ ac 282 - I'm thinking you may be right, they may be worn out (well the back one anyway - it's got some decent cuts in it)

Schwalbe Durano S have been flawless and fine in the cold and wet.
