I've built up a pair of Stans Hugo rims for a bit of an experiment.

The frame I have earmarked for the build takes a 2.8" trailblazer on the 52mm rim but the casing is, IMHO, a bit close to the chain stays.

A friend has gone with a 2.25" NN on the same rim and that seems fine if a little square in profile.

So before I do some further frame swapping has anyone got any suggestions for a 2.4" or 2.5" 27.5" tyre that would be okay run out the back?

2.8 trailblazer is only about 2.6 in reality, even on a wide rim, so if its tight I would probably hold off from going to anything else of that ilk as they will only size up wider. At 50mm wide the hugo will ruin all but the roundest of tyres, so I would probably look for something very round! maybe an Ardent 2.4, or a larger Hansdampf would be workable? Also consider maybe a WTB Breakout - thats a really sound rear tyre in the 2.5 version, if a little heavy.

Whilst the tread on the trailblazer isn't 2.8" the casing is very close to being 2.8" and that's the bit causing me concern.

There is probably 4mm each side at the chainstay again with the casing.

I may be fine but for the cost of a new tyre I may continue tinkering.

On-One Chunly Monkey - is a proper 2.4 tyre, comes up nice and big on 50mm rims.
