I am just about to purchase a pickenflick and from a bit of research it looks like the giemmie roccia equipe are worth upgrading.

The choices are :-

Fulcrum Racing Sport - potentially a free upgrade but ive found a few people having issues with the hubs

Fulcrum 700 disc - £100 extra

FSA NS 29er - £80 extra

Any experience or advice would be appreciated

Hi,

Unless Fulcrum improved massively I would avoid like a plague.

Slow in pickup, bearings sealed with paper and main clutch retention spring made of cheese-string.

I killed my Racing 7 after 3000 miles of road commuting. And I'm on the lightish side around 11st with gear.

Can't comment on FSA I'm afraid...

Cheers!
I.

I ran the Roccia wheels it came with for a few month commuting, got fed up with truing them. After a spoke snapped in my first cx race, i decided to upgrade.
I picked up some hardly used Hope Tech XC 29er wheels on Pro 4 hubs for under £200.
Lighter than the Roccias, strrong and well built. Still as good as the day i fitted them 18 months ago, after 3000km road commuting, 7 or 8 CX races and some local XC loops with my mountain bike group.

Thanks for the replies. I was hanging on to the roccia as a heavy / strong option but it looks like they aint all that.

The fulcrum racing sports seem to have a bad rep for their bearings (just replace with better quality ones when needed?).

Can't find much on the FSAs...

The Fulcrum Racing 7 (700) DB seem quite well received so may be worth the extra £100.. But Adam has a bad experience with them...

Hmph. Maybe one of the free options and an uograde later if therr is an issue.

My Pickenflick shipped with Vision Team Disc wheels. Pretty heavy (over 2.1kg), grumbly freehub and there is a bit of play with the freehub, but lasted a year and 4k kms (and still going). Upgraded to a set of Hunt 4 season disc wheels in January, night & day difference.

So. Unless you are confident of one of the PX/OO offers, I'd just take the stock wheels and plan/budget for an upgrade.
